Yes you need to start with walls and such but you may need to burn off old paint and get the scraper out for wallpaper. By the way my dad is a painter and decorator by trade though we live a fair way away from you. Before glossing you will need under coat with paint and a few layers too if you paint the walls and not paper them. I dont know its hard to know what to say not being able to see it. Is it council flat? |

Sorry i dont think that was plain English what i said. If you paint the doors and skirting boards first use under coat then when dry use gloss paint over it. With walls and ceilings use a roller and do a couple of layers paint wise. Wallpaper hanging is a little harder so perhaps painting might be easier for you. But if there is wallpaper on it already from before you will need a scraper to get it off or use a steamer. And before painting skirting boards or doors you will need to clean them first. Fill in any holes with poly filler on walls if any before papering or painting. Use a dust sheet on the floor to catch the mess. Good luck.

Hi Bono,
Yep its a Very small Council Bedsit flat property no bedroom
just consists of a Brandnew Bathroom, Kitchen, living room and hall ive got a shed and share a garden with some noisey wench upstairs with a kid I think i'll be having words with her if she continues to slam her front door cos it vibrates my flat and don't me started on the floor board noise
I just hope she moves out when her kid gets older!!!
as the flat above me is a 1bedroom place!
I was gonna start the ceiling first tbh but yes maybe the walls would be a better idea 1st!
the wall in my living room is a right mess im gonna ask the council to come out and plaster it as it's lumpy I couldn't paint it nor put wallpaper up its that bad!
the prev bloke has also gone and put gloss paint on the wall where my gas fire is would I have to strip this off before I could put paint on?
I would love to have it wallpapered but I ain't gotta clue how to do it,
maybe I should give it a try I want a few walls wallpapered and painted im gonna paint it chocolate brown and a lighter white colour

Oh god dont get me started on council flats. I have a cousin in Birmingham he lives with his wife near Northfield but his house is with The Bournville Village Trust. They are a spin off from the council but are better. He lives in nice area near Northfield Manor School.

ive no Gas or water the council told me they'd get intouch with Gas and electricity for me and let them phone me up ok thats fine cos ive got electricity anyway however im confused over the water ive looked at Serven Trent waters site and Emailed them bout coming to the property to turn the water on on and they'd said I need to find some Stop taps I int gotta clue where the hell they are and I don't wanna go messing as I might turn the womans upstairs off
btw the best bit of my flat is the bathroom it's totally new the kitchen cupboards are bloomin awful and the doors aint the ones I wanted but what can I do?
I sent them a repair list but main priority is to get the door open lol

If you go under your sink the stop taps are under there normally. Be careful not to get wet by being sprayed lol. Well as regards to council flats well. I had one or two in the past never again. I viewed a flat and decided not to take it. Anyway few months later they sent me a rent arrears letter saying i owed £729. WHAT? I had not even taken the flat. Also i did something naughty once but got found out. My gas meter had a bit of plastic broken off it. So i could reach my finger inside and turn the meter and yes you guessed it i got free gas for months. Until they found out. Oh dear. They went mad and i escaped the property lol did a runner. If i was living near where you are i could have got my dad to do decorating for you for a very good price. He has been doing it since he was 15. He is now 67 and still doing it. He has many clients and has taught me a bit. Im good at painting but not so at hanging wallpaper it goes horribly wrong for some reason. Can any family or friends help you?

Do you know what they look like those taps under the sink?
im gunna have to ring them anyway to set up an account I don't fancey any unexspected big bills coming through lol
I find that odd that they sent you a bill I mean if you don't sign any agreements on the property they cannot sent you anything stupid sods!
I hate how councils work giving out propertys my poor sister should have one too but they says shes not even a priority down Bournemouth.
My Council seem quicker offering out propertys however for me to get a 1 Bed place i'd have to wait another year so I got more points,
all they'd offer me is Bedsit propertys last one I veiwed inside was a lot nicer then what Ive got now but the one ive got now is in a great area and not far from my friend

I know i went crazy when i recieved that bill as anyone would. Obviously a cock up on their systems. The water thing they should be like a valve that you turn about half way down the pipe. You should hear a gushing noise or a release sound when you do it. Not in your face i hope. I hate how councils put priority on people who have only just arrived in the country really annoys me that. My girlfriend ok she fell pregnant by her ex who cheated on her and left her. She then had to leave his flat and on top of that she lost her job. Now i started going out with her and helped her back on her feet. For a while she ended up in a hostel before we started going out. She lost everything. Anyway the council offered her a complete dump. Typical of what they do to pregnant women by themselves. So now i am with her i rescued her and took her in. Ah love story with a happy ending. I am there for her baby too even though its not mine But the hostel and council flat were horrible you would not offer the flat they offered her to a tramp lol

I got the council to turn my water on im finding it hard to get intouch with Water company though cos they exspect you to ring prem rate numbers which I don't want to.

if it is white, it will be fine if you have a good paint
the B&Q colours range is very good, and gives very good coverage. the paint always turns out much darker than it seems in the tub tho ... so get some testers
you should see the state of my room in our new house. my walls have been painted with a blue gloss by the previous owners
its also a good idea to put down masking tape on the borders and celling when painting, it looks a whole lot neater once you're done

And once you start a wall, don't stop at any costs, until you've finished it!
If you do, you may find areas where a dry layer has been overlapped so it's an uneven surface.
Get yourself fully prepped for each wall, so you're not running about opening tins, pouring into trays and mixing paints, and you'll have something which looks good for years to come.
And use a small roller
Works well.

ditto for the small roller
also dont skimp on the paint for the roof, B&Q value paint wasn't one of our best purchases |

lol Masking tape is so shite tape a edge up and pull it up and you have more of the other colour you didn't want,
ive been using card it's more practical,
the skirten boards are a pain inda arse I gotta admit Gloss paint is such a bloomin knightmare
btw I might be having my Gas fire taken out so when the council plaster it I may be cheeky and ask them to do the whole wall then that Gloss wall is outta my face, if not though ive borrowed a sander ive been running it over to take the shine outta the paint as it's white gloss then thats great to no I can just use a decent paint over it after ive Filled in all the holes lol
My walls are in such a state everywhere,
my flats the poly filler pit
btw ive finished the sitting room so time to move onto
that DDDreaded Kitchen
is there anyway to remove that Artex crap guys???
Ps, ive bought all my paint from Focus!
