New Phone Options outside of SE |
stetwin Joined: Apr 30, 2006 Posts: 213 From: UK - England - Durham PM |
I made a post asking for possible SE handset options for my upgrade which is due in two weeks and i almost forgot to see what other phones out there are worth taking a look at, network is not important and as long as the phone isn't going to cost a fortune on a 50p/m contract i would be interested in it, so what could you guys recommend? N96? BB-Storm?? iPhone 3G??? Samsung Tocco????

i have had my T-mobile G1 for the last couple of weeks and i love it!
Apart from the battery life which lasts about a day everything else is great... great touchscreen, great OS, great support for FREE apps (i.e. at the moment everything in the Android Market is FREE!) and the phone looks lovely in the white!
Other than that the Nokia N96 would get a vote from me...

I guess it really depends on whats most important to you feature wise, or whether the latest features are important to you? You mentioned 3 touchscreen devices there, so i would assume you're quite interested in one. Would probably help if you draw up a list of features that are most/least important for you.
Obviously when you're talking about a touchscreen device, nothing quite works as well as the iPhone 3g, but the G1 would also be a good bet if you dont want to 'follow the crowd' with the iPhone.
Also i'm not too sure what the tariffs are like with the Storm, but I expect a lot higher than say the tariff would be for a G1. Of course with the iPhone the initial outlay of 99 for a 35pm tariff can be a turn-off for some.
Out of those i would prob rule out the Tocco as it's a bit old hat nowadays |

Id stay away from the N96, it seems to be a real lemon. Why not look at the
NOKIA N85: http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_n85-2496.php
NOKIA N79: http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_n79-2497.php
OR
SAMSUNG Innov8: http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i8510_innov8-2471.php
All three seem to be getting realy positive reviews, plus it looks like that N79 seems to be the best in its price range.

I have had my Omnia for 2 weeks now and am very happy with it. Maybe an option if you need to know anything just ask.
As mentioned by Ryan I would rule out the Tocco, other newer phones are now available.

I had noticed the T-Mobile G1, and the specs do seem nice but it does seem rather large in the size spec although i have not seen one in real life, do you find it a big device or is it much of a muchness with things like the iPhone??

I have an original iPod touch and since then i have been "in love" with the whole touch screen idea my only off put would be txting but i'm sure its something that becomes easier over time (just like getting use to the alt layout on a BB-Pearl)?
I think the extra cost of 99 would be a big put off for me getting an iPhone as its money i just don't have free at the moment, I'm not up to speed with the latest T-Mobile or Vodaphone tariffs but i do have an employee discount account running with T-Mobile which means I'm currently getting the old Flext-50 for 25 which isn't bad.
I didnt realise just how old the Tacco was until i did a little research, so i guess you right and i should rule it out as i should be able to get any phone on the market so i might be best looking at the newest and latest as i'm a big techy gadget buff,
Has anyone tried a BB-Storm yet? And what did you think of it?

The Omnia does look interesting, I haven't read much about it but i think i will go do a little research on it to see what its all about, one question though, does it still run on a similar style menu system as the old Samsung E700/E720?? as i totally hated that lol!!
Thanks for all of the replies so far, its a big help with making my decision, also feel free to pitch in any SE phones that you think would be on par with the previous mentioned phones,

The additional cost of 99 is putting me off and i use a Mac as my computer so it would make sense but i will have to think about it, |
