Strange problem - flashing SE p990i |

Hello everyone!
My first post here so please be gentle. I have a p990i and I wish to flash it. I have all the necessary things -
1. cable
2. phone
3. new laptop, USB 2.0, working
4. PC suite
5. SE update utility
I have synched the phone with the PC, backed everything up, therefore it connects perfectly fine. Now, I do not have the top lid and cannot press the "C" button. I have tried connecting as per instructions, pressing the "@", "c" OR "DEL" to get it into update mode, bbut nothing seems to work.
The laptop says New USB device found ali UNKNOWN USB device..... Telephone flashes once (the screen) and thats it.... I start the update utility, it takes me through about 3 screens (next, next, ...) and finally I get to the instructions to remove battery, press C, connect cable....
All I can press is BACK. Nothing seems to work. Any ideas what to do? Hard reset or anything? I also have a HTC Touch Pro and no problems with it, installed .net framework 3.5, did a hard SPL, flashed new rom.....
THank you all in advance

hi and welcome
what C are you pressing? put the flip on and press the C key down the right soft button. i guess it should work.
what OS do you have?

I am pressing the normal letter C in the full qwerty keyboard. I cannot unfortunatly put the lid back on as i seem to have lost it :-/ ... I took it off because not all the keys worked and I liked it this way better. (without the lid).
I read on the net that pressing "@", "Normal" c or DEL is the same without the lid, as "C" with the lid.

Thank you for your replies!
What do you mean "flash drivers"? I have PC suite and the PC normally recognizes the phone, synchs etc.... laptop only doesnt recognise it when I press the @, c or del.
I did everything, format internal drive, remove battery, ... connected the phone, and the pc starts recognition (SOny ericsson, port, blah blah) but last message (lower right, system tray) but the last message in the bubble is USB unrecognised device....
man it sucks |

sorry for that. i mean, you should be able to update the phone with SEUS. as you dont have the flip, press AND HOLD the @ key, connect the cable. it should start the process, then you release the @ key.

Yes, I have tried doing that and what happens I have described above.
any other ideas? some drivers Im missing or something? The phone is recognised by PC in "normal" synch mode (via PC SUite) but not recignised when I do this update procedure.
@ doesnt work, C doesnt work (C without the flip), DEL (without the flip) doesnt work... |

when you've connected the phone in flash mode (c key held), check your pc's device manager to see if you have anything under 'unknown devices' listed. If so, then point the 'update drivers' wizard to the drivers folder in your pcsuite folder, the path to mine is:
C:\\Program Files\\Sony Ericsson\\Sony Ericsson Symbian 9 Drivers
hop this helps |
