Monkey see, monkey do, eh? No sooner do we learn that SDHC will eventually morph into SDXC with a capacity limit of 2TB than Sony and SanDisk announce that the Memory Stick PRO / Memory Stick Micro will soon reach that same ceiling. In fact, the announcement is so new that the format doesn't even have a name (something along the lines of Extended High Capacity, probably), giving both of the formats the ability to reach 2TB on a single card. If all goes to plan, production should get going on the new formats sometime this year, so it's safe to say the race to a new top is officially on.

2TB is the maximum in the same way that 32gb is the maximum for todays card standards
now that we're almost at 32gb, their potential cost doesn't seem obscene as we might have first thought when we first heard about them. you can get a 16gb card now for around £40 these days so 32gb isn't going to be scary
similarly, by the time 2TB becomes available we will have had many intervening capacities (64/128/256gb etc), all of which will reduce in price making the 2TB seem more rasonable by the time they come available, and I reckon that'll be a long way off as capacities only seem to double or quadruple each year

My, my, my! How time flies. It was just the other day that my 1GB seemed so enormous now these guys are racing to get to 2 TB. I wonder if I will ever say "wow, my TB is sooo much."
Cheers to them. I guess that means no more deleting of items from phones and other devices.
Question though, are phones and other devices going to be up to speed with reading and writing on them by the time they come out?
