Reading various posts on here, i see potential buyers of the T300 are concerned about the fact that the polyphonic volume of the T300 is too "quiet" to be heard in a public place.

Well there is nothing much to do about the volume of Poly ringtones, unless it gets fixed by a firmware release (if possible).

However, one thing nobody seem to have mentioned is that the T300 also supports the Monophonic (iMelody) ring tones too, via a seperate and LOUD buzzer (seems much louder than the T68i's one). So if you are in a noisy environment, simply set the profile to "outdoors" and set a suitable Mono ring tone (the classic ericsson "Mixed" and the mono version fo the new SE jingle are particularly earpiering!)

I heard that you can edit those midi in a program that can maximise the volume, so the polyphonic sound will be louder on T300 !

True, i have done that, but i find that only tones with decent treble are loud enough even still.

I haev been ramping up all my midis, and the music that seems to be the "loudest" is Nelly & Kelly's Dilemma, which is fine for me, coz the girls dig it!

I'm not too sure about the mono ringer either... I always have to have it on full volume in order to hear it in public, I wouldn't say it was particularly loud... but definitly adequate.

I don't use polyphonic rings they're a joke in public, impossible to hear. I really do hope Sony Ericsson release a firmware update to improve this at least a small amount. The midi editing ect helps a bit but to be honest a big difference is needed for it to be functional outdoors

I remember reading a post on another forum before I bought the phone in which the owner, (who thought that the polys were perfectly loud) said the phone 'vibrated' from the sound (not the vibrating alert!!!). Mine doesn't... it makes me wonder if we really are all listening to the same volume? I have the RA0008 or something like that... it's quite an old version though I think.

As was noted in this forum previously, standard MIDI's are often a little too quiet for the T300, so you need to put them into a Midi editing program (one example is Anvil Studio) And you need to effectively ramp up all the intruments to maximum volume. This is why some of the songs provided by SE seem louder than midis downloaded - they have been adjusted. (try looking in the SE wap pages for more poly ringtones to download - milano is quite loud)

Trebles are quite loud, but bass is almost non existant. This has nothing to do with the sound generator (which is in fact of very high quality) but more to do with the speaker being used. This is why nelly's song dilema can be quite easily heard. Songs with a loud thumping bass, although cannot be heard, can make the phone vibrate a bit, though not much, i think the person is slighty pulling our leg there.

As for the monophonic ringtones being louder, well my software is R1D. and it is definately louder than my T68i on R2F. The mono sounds come from a buzzer on the side of the phone (look on the right hand side, you will see a small hole - and if you remove the cover, you can just about see the buzzer) Many people who review the phone mistake this to be the mic, but the mic is located at the bottom where picture the headset is, look carefully and you can see a hole there.

I am hoping that a "speaker handsfree" kit like what was available for the 33xx becomes available for the T300. This is a thing that replaces the back cover with a new one including a built in speaker and amplification cuircuitry. This woudl certainly make the poly ringtones a LOT louder, thought at the expense of a bit of battery life!
