New Nokia 3650 imaging phone selected as one of the best new products of 2003
Nokia (NYSE: NOK), the expert in mobility, today announced that the new Nokia 3650 imaging phone was selected as an Innovations 2003 award winner at the 2003 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The annual Innovations awards honor the year's most innovative products in 20 categories.
Designed to allow users to share their experiences with both voice and images, the Nokia 3650 phone includes an integrated VGA resolution camera, a large 176x208 pixel color display supporting 4096 colors, and a unique retro-styled circular keypad with a 5-way scroll key. The Nokia 3650 also incorporates a camcorder for capturing video clips, as well as a RealOne Player for playing or accessing streaming video content. MMS functionality allows users to send video clips, images, text and sound over the air to another MMS-enabled phone or to a standard e-mail address. The Nokia 3650 phone also supports a wide variety of e-mail standards and features an XHTML browser to enable next generation browsing.
The tri-band (GSM 900/1800/1900) Nokia 3650 imaging phone incorporates the Nokia Series 60 user interface, allowing users to easily navigate and activate the phone's features with just one hand. The Nokia 3650 imaging phone represents the first Series 60 device in the Americas, and Nokia's second Series 60 device worldwide, the first being the Nokia 7650 imaging phone which has already created a Series 60 user base numbering in the millions. Built-in Java technology allows users to personalize the content on their phone with a wide selection of third-party applications, including image editing and a variety of graphic-intense games. The Nokia 3650 imaging phone is expected to be available in early 2003.
Each year, an independent panel of industry designers, engineers and journalists evaluate the year's best new consumer electronics products that are submitted by electronics manufacturers and marketed in the United States. The Innovations 2003 Awards honor the best in consumer technology design and engineering in twenty categories, and for 2003 were selected from over 600 individual entries.
Innovations is the most widely renowned consumer technology awards program in the consumer electronics industry, endorsed and advised by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) and sponsored and produced by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA).

The 3650 has been hit with a very large ugly stick for sure.
But it does have its advantages over the P800 (Don't kill me for this
The main one being the MMC slot, which means they are easier to get hold of and cheaper, I mean sure the annoying thing about it is, the fact that you have to remove the battery to access it, but I still would have prefered MMC to Sony branded over priced rubbish.
Also the Series 60 Platform has alot going for it in the way of software at the moment, I also think it will be great for playing games with the 'deformed' keypad, unlike the P800 with it's.....erm.....????
But I still wouldn't touch it, just for the fact that a 4 year old designed it with his new wax crayons

I thnk that the 3650 is a matter of either loving it or hating it.
I remember i was so excited when i first found out about it, so that i ditched the P800. But now i prefer the P800 over the 3650. Now depending their prices: The Nokia 3650 sells for around $400 in Hong Kong and the P800 foa $800. If prices dont go down, i'm afraid i will be forced to go for the nokia model.
I like being different(P800) but i don't think i can be that different(3650)!!!
I can resist everything except temptation(P800).. Nokia 3110 Ericsson GF Audiovox GSM810 |

Yes, it has some PDA functions. It's running the same OS as N7650; Symbian 6.1 Series 60.

"a large 176x208 pixel color display" <-LARGE!??!?!?!? For a phone that's LARGER than the P800... that is a PATHETIC screen size!
I played with one here in the Philippines, and the 3650 is a great phone... FOR ME TO POOP ON!!! (Late Night w/ Conan viewers know what this means! hehehehe)
The 3650 is, by far, THE ugliest phone on the market. (And I thought my P800 was poorly designed!)
I couldn't believe it when I measured the 3650, the thing is a lot longer than the P800... has less features, a tiny screen, a ROTARY keypad (who the hell uses rotary?!?!?) and a design made by some retarded child.
Any phone that's within the size range of the 7650,P800 and 3650 SHOULD have a screen at LEAST the size of the P800's screen. |
