As soon as you debrand yes you can change your short cuts. Your phone contacts will not delete from the sim but they will in the phone. Just back it all up to your pc. Have fun and good luck. By the way you could have spent ten quid more and got the unbranded one from Carphone but perhaps you wanted the white one.
Phone?? What phone??

Thanks again guys.

I am now slightly confused...

Tranced implied that (once debranded) I could change the navigation key shortcuts but not the left & right selection keys, the right one going to google search which is no better for me than it going to vodafone live! as it does with my Vodafone branded firmware.

Bonovox then implied I could do what I want and change the shortcuts for the left & right selection keys, but wasn't specific.

Sorry to be annoying but can I change the selection key (not navigation key) shortcuts with an unbranded C510.

Thanks again guys.

PS. Yes Bonovox I did want the White & Red version, and the whole upgrade package that I got from Vodafone with my renewed contract was excellent.

After Debranding you should be able to change those 2 keys (left/right-softkey-hook) . SEUS is Sony Ericsson Update Service , to be found at the official SE site . I Hope this helps.

@mattst: you can really change the softkeys BUT you will need to edit some xml files. Thats why i didnt say anything before.

Sorry i got it wrong you can only change short cuts on D pad. Regarding changing short cut keys i was thinking of Nokia. Silly me. You can change them on a Nokia. Sorry.

@tranced, can you please explain how to edit the xml files? thanks..

oh ok. regarding the "Edit Before Call" thing I mentioned earlier, there's the option when you open the contact info. Before, I was just looking at the contacts list and didn't think of opening the contact info. silly me. cheers! Happy with my c510 now! Conversation mode is cool btw!

@tranced - Thanks for the info. and link.

Do you think I can achieve what I want by editing the xml files without first debranding the phone?? After all it's just the shortcuts that are my problem, the rest of the Vodafone branding is fine. Cheers.

Yeah you should be able to. The branding also modifies these files.

Read a few posts concerning dust behind screen and stuck pixels... maybe this was the early batches. Anyone still having these issues?

@tranced: I tried using a2uploader - the version inside a2uploader_v3.rar from this post http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=177034 - and I sucessfully connected using it to my C510.

The thread you pointed me to said this was the file I needed:
/tpa/preset/custom/RIGHT_SOFTKEY_HOOK.itm

It is on my phone I can see it listed inside the directory specified above but I can not get that .itm file -or any other file I tried- off my phone and on to my PC. Instructions which I found said to drag'and'drop files from a2uploader's FileSytem tool to my PC. I tried dragging to a file manager and to my desktop but dragging and dropping did not do anything at all.

Obviously I can't make alterations to RIGHT_SOFTKEY_HOOK.itm unless I can get it from my phone to the PC first. Am I missing something or is there some way of doing it that I have not noticed.

Thanks again.

You cannot do it from phone to pc but the inverse. If you want to get the files off the phone you just right click on the file and select 'read'. The file will get saved in the a2 folder and you will see another folder called 'ph out'.
