well, SE could have added extra value so that the X1 offered more than the base WM in order that previous SE smartphone owners found some familiarity when moving to WM, so SE can take some of the blame...

Yes, and as far as I remember I paid the 900$ directly to SE, not in my memory paying Microsoft anything. SE is obviously responsible what they put in their product.

So, anybody found a way to automatically have the phone FIRST select WiFi before it connects automatically to Mobile Data?

All WM phones I have ever had will always choose wifi over a network connection automatically.

I only buy unbranded phones and wonder if yours is branded in some way that makes it choose the network over wifi?

to be honest, when I first used the P990 (and later the P1), it was alien to me having to prioritise wifi over network connection as I had never had to do that before on WM

Yes, of course. That's why I think I stated I have all OFF. If the phone has WiFi on then it does take it as did the P990.

But on the other hand, I cannot find a way to set up 'Internet' which stands for WiFi additionally.
I find only Mobile Data and Work. And under work is no selection for Wifi, only modem and data.
