8 megapixel camera phones |

I was thinking with all this palava about the amazing new 8 megapixel camera phones - they really aren't that much of a big deal. everyone is on about how good the cameras really are but looking closely you cannot see the difference between a N96 and a Pixon photo except it takes up a lot more precious memory and you have to scroll around your PC screen to view all parts of the photo. why is this so good?
I have seen for myself all of the new 8 mega pixel camera phones and the photos they can take compared with a 5 megapixel camera phone there really isn't much of a difference. If the user is someone who doesn't upload them to the PC then the screen quality of the phone could let the photos down.
I'm just trying to say, whats the fuss about and why is everyone so hyped. 5 megapixels are amazing anyway....
Lets think in 5 years time they'll have like 22 megapixel camera phones... that will be useful, fill up a 1 gig memory card with 2 snaps. No point. |

You are both right and wrong. All companies nowadays play around with megapixel wars, including digital cameras. BUT there ARE difference in quality between 5 megapixel phones and 8 megapixel ones, let me give you a very good example: the SE k850i(5mp) vs SE C905(8mp). Also Samung's Innovate. These ARE HUGE improvements in qualities produced. Also, you can set your phone camera to take smaller picture sizes if you want so you will not fill up the memory card fast. |

Still, the pixelcount tells nothing about the quality. Well, the larger ammount of pixels fitted in the tiny sensor, the more noise you get.
If you want to compare 5Mp against 8Mp please don't pick the k850, it was/is worse than k800 and you know it. I wouldn't say 8Mp c905 is a huge improvement over the old and trusty n82. You can also have a look at the pictures that zn5 produce.

He wasn't talking about the N82 though.

good to know some of you think like me
i think probably one reason they are trying to make the cameras higher mega pixels is because the people who are clueless about phones and just want to flash around their new 8mp camera phone wouldn't know any better.

Like I said in another thread, it's the woe of marketing. But actually I think some of C905's pics are very good. Which just shows how much unrealized potential is there.
@xironghostx
Yup my bad.

And I'm talking about the company itself. Its all about gimmick also, and the type of sensor the company added to their phones. And not ALL 5mp cameraphones produced by the same company produces the same quality. Let me give you another example again, this time the SE G900 vs W902 vs K850. BTW although ZN5 produces beautiful and colourful pictures, the camera produces grains which even when shrunk to ard 5R size I can still see the graininess... Thats their camera lowdown. |
