Hi, i just got my AMAZING c905 this morning. Does someone know how to turn off always available GPRS, cause it needlessly consumes extra batery power. On my last SE k800 it was very simple but on C905 i Just can't figure out how to. |

Go to menu--->settings--->connections--->mobile networks---->GSM-/3G-networks. then choose only GSM instead of 3G/GSM |

I did, but "E" sign is still there on top of reception bar. Or this is the way it is with 3G phones? |

that's perfectly normal, mine says G (we don't have a EDGE network here) but GPRS/UMTS/HSDPA |

If you're so fussed about battery life, disable the GPS. It's on by default.

No it isn't, there is no GPS active unless it's activated. You can recognise it as a little satellite, if it's flashing it is looking for coordinates.

GPRS does not consume more power.
From the old T68 FAQ: Will using the GPRS functionality have a negative effect on the battery performance?
No, the GPRS does not impact the battery performance in any negative way.

I get worried when I look down and see that my phone has connected to the inernet for no apparent reason - looks a bit suspicious to me.
I mean, why would it connect to the internet without you asking it to? I can understand it if you have RSS feeds updating but when its connected and the blue globe is flashing you don't have any idea why and how much data is being transferred.
I find it slightly odd.

Dont worry, I always have the 'E' logo too, yet my phone still cannot get online on tmo US. I think the 'E' or 'G' will appear if it detects that type of network? just a guess. |

That's correct and that's what i mean, if you get 3G/H next to the Network bar, you've connected to a 3G network and that consumes more power. |

you're NOT connected unless you have an app connected to the net. The
E, G, 3G etc are there to show you one of those types of network
connection is available ..... My W902 shows H all the time but is NOT
connected to the network all the time
I reject your reality and substitute my own. |

Exactly... the letters are indicators of which network and connection are available at the moment... You are not connected to internet until you see the internet icon (the icon with earth) next to the network indicator...
P.S. It's the same with my p1 btw...GPRS is always available and seem like running in background, but it's not... It works only if you connect or use some internet application.
