I have a t68i, and understand that an EMS is just an SMS with added pictures/melodies/animations.

Anyway, I'd like to know exactly how this system works! Do the pictures/melodies take up a certain number of characters. ie: SMS has 160 characters; small (16x16) pictures take up about 40 characters (?), Large (32x32) takes up around 150 characters.

Animations seem to take up the same space as still images of the same size!?!?

Is the EMS charged in the same way as SMS??

In the UK, Orange charge 10p for SMS and 40p for MMS. So is EMS charged at 10p for each 160 characters (= 1 sms) used?

The size of EMS depends of the size of the mel, pic or ani. Yes, an ani is almost the same size as of a pic. I made experiments in d 1. time, created a lot of unsent mess to figure out how to size ems. One ems costs d same as 1 sms. Reg

In short, it depends, if you put large pic and melody with the text it is sent as few SMS`s and each one is charged separatly, same with the long SMS (concatenated SMS). Same with Nokia Smart messaging, picture messaging, sending operator logos etc...

Apparently, pre-defined animations and sound clips that come with all(??) EMS phones take up virtually no space as they are just referenced in the message.

that's why the t68i built-in animations take up almost no space at all.

Anyway, it seems stupid that EMS should cost 30p, as it was designed to be used just as SMS messages. What happens if the composed EMS takes up 3 SMS messages? Orange charge you 90p ???

You may as well drive to your friend's house to say hi - and save money!
