Mumbai: In one of the most audacious terror attacks in the country, terrorists armed with AK-47s, grenades and low intensity bombs struck at some of Mumbai’s busiest and most opulent sites killing 101people and injuring 187.
Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief Hemant Karkare, who was spearheading the Malegaon bomb blast probe, Additional Commissioner Ashok Kamte and encounter specialist Vijay Salaskar were among the 11 police officials killed during gunbattle with the terrorists.
Here is how it began:
Café Leopold, Colaba
At 2130 hrs IST, three gunmen opened fire at the guests inside an upscale Mumbai restaurant Café Leopold, which is a popular destination with foreign tourists. The restaurant was riddled with bullet holes and there were blood on the floor and shoes left by fleeing customers.
Maharashtra Director General of Police A N Roy said: "At least seven places have been attacked. The figure could be eight.”
"The terrorists have gone in and fired indiscriminately at certain places. They are still holed up in three places and gun-battles have been on (with security forces)."
The Taj Mahal Hotel
Next on the list was the city’s heritage hotel The Taj Mahal, where about 200 people holed up inside a hall as they were advised by the hotel staff not to go out because of the attack by terrorists.
Police officials said terrorists opened fire at police and paramilitary forces outside the hotel in south Mumbai between 2215 hrs IST and 2230 hrs IST.
The police officials said firing was on near the five-star hotel where around 2,000 guests and staff were stranded. Screams could be heard and enormous clouds of black smoke rose from the century-old hotel. Fire-fighters were spraying water at the blaze.
The attackers specifically targeted Britons and Americans, witnesses said. Several European lawmakers were among people who barricaded themselves inside the Taj.
"I was in the main lobby and there was all of a sudden a lot of firing outside," said Sajjad Karim, part of a delegation of European lawmakers visiting Mumbai ahead of a European Union-India summit.

Bloody terrorists.Doesnt have any balls whatsoever. This is an endeavour by Pakistan to destabilize India.they are in totalt shit themselves and are trying theirbest to do the same for India. Now how can you explain terrorists coming into a hotel and asking for foreigners?? It was an attempt to breach the foreigner security in india and make India seem as a weak spot for tourism. It not only is a black day in indian history, but it will also effect us in the long run.
The ship they have travelled in has been detained and it seems that they havebeen deported from karachi. Damn these pakistanis, damn terrorism. |

@Pk- Islam has no hand in this whatsoever.it is one of the oldest religions in world history and is practised by millions of people around the world. These terrorists call themselves Jihadis and are a spot in the name of religion. They have no work but to reign terror in the minds of people and destroy a country.
it is high time pakistan does anything about it, as I can see, we are heading for world War III and the war starts in South Asia and I am totally for it. How much more shall we bear?? Bomb blasts, now mass attacks on humans. Its better we solve it once and for all. I am not saying that the Pakistan Governement is directyly involved, but how can you explain all these terror groups emring out of only and only Pakistan. unless you have inside help, these groups should cease to exist. |

If it is I will be outraged to, not because I am a follower of Islam, but I have friends who are and they are good people, the teaching of the Qu'ran have helped make them better imo.

They are just sick evil shits who do it in the name of religion or god. Its sick. They say we are the evil ones but its them using religion as an excuse to kill innocent people. How anyone can do that is beyond me. And they are cowards too and will not meet in paradise like they say when they blow themselves up. Its brainwashing. God bless the souls of the dead and injured. |

its nt tht islam is an easy target .. its people who make it easy, it is people who portray the wrong picture of any religion, not just Islam.
Hope this all terrorism thing comes to an end and the people responsible for this brought to justice ....

Armed men have gone on a rampage in Mumbai, killing many innocent people.
An American tourist, who witnessed the attacks, said, "I'm outraged - my travel agent said I would experience a different culture."
/hides for that close to the bone joke... but it pokes fun at Americans and not what's happening in Mumbai so it should all be cool!
