Then there would be no point in the networks locking the phones. The networks lock the phones so we stay with them making them more money which in turn means they subsidies the phones more which means cheaper phones for us. Easy unlocking means networks will lose revenue meaning less subsidie so higher priced phones to us.

If our networks DO give us so much customer service and customer satisfaction as they claim, then why do it, spending money doesn't cheer people up (although it can be done for free)

vodafone and o2 dnt have their phones locked ..
i think the network operators have realized that despite them locking the phones up, ppl unlock thm so that they can use for either international purposes or other networks.
dnt know abt 3, t-mobile or orange .. if sum1 can confirm if their phones r locked or not...

Blame Gordon Brown for locked phones.
He was chancellor of the exchequor during the 3G spectrum auctions which auctioned off less available spectrum than there were network operators forcing them to go into massive debt. The networks need to recoup their losses somehow...

sorry to be a bit off topic, but just to address another network operator gripe: when will they realise that branding a phones software and putting their markings on the phone puts people off |
