Okay, here goes.

Everything works great on my phone except one thing.
When I'm at home and connected to my home wifi on the phone, NetFront and Opera4mini pick it up and let me browse. Googlemaps lets me search the maps and TrackID connects (although it wont let me buy). I've worked out that I cannot connect to orangeworld services through the wifi for the simple fact that orangeworld is a private service to orange customers and not available on the www through my router.

BUT WHAT ABOUT STREAMING VIDEO

YoutTube and vtap simply do not connect. They are happy to via GPRS etc but not on wifi. I'm pretty clear this is a router/firewall problem but can find no information on the net to confirm this or offer a solution other than, disable my firewall (no effin way).
SO
I have asked SEUK to help me but they'll probably take weeks. So if anyone here has any experience of this and a fix then I'd be ever so grateful. I have a bag full of kudos to give away.

Yeah the video streaming is not th way it needs to be... THe same happens on my P1 and seems that this happens to all wifi phones too, nor matter if they're smartphones or others... In fact I have the EXACT problem with the P1 which only allows me video streaming via GPRS, but GPRS is too slow to be used for youtube and etc...

Cheers. I've not been able to respond cos I'm a newb, but now I can.

I have spent a lot of time searching about, there are quite a few people with the p1 that are suffering the same problem. Some people find opening the RTSP port on their router fixes the problem simply. Unfortunately not for me.

I've scourer my routers CLI manual and searched high and low through forums. I've messaged SonyE and Be (my isp and router provider) with the hope that they are working on a valid solution.
One other fix apparently is to set a DMZ for the phone in the router.

Annoyingly, Be have removed the possibility of creating a DMZ with my Thompson SpeedTouch 780 (BeBox), I cannot find anywhere.. even in the telnet client for setting this up. Quite a few people are annoyed with Be for this.

So far there are only two guaranteed fixes. Neither of which I am happy with as they are both to buy a new ADSL2+ router. One that has RTSP streaming support or at least the functions of a DMZ.

I've emailed Be to ask if there router has RTSP streaming support and if I am just not finding it. Opening a port is not good enough, I even disabled my firewall briefly to experiment with no joy. I'm pretty sure it's router side though not phoneside. But of course sony could easily fix this on a firmware update I'm sure.

I have a program on my M33 PSP called superpsptube that lets me watch streaming video from youtube/googlevid/veoh and many others, so I don't see why the phone cannot.

More updates on this as I get them!

Okay I've fixed it here!

Like this:
Pretty convinced it's my BeBox and the only solution being to set the phone into a DMZ which Be have disabled I set about DEBRANDING my BeBox ;0)

got the latest generic (and Be for backup) firmware from:
http://www.thomson.net/Global[....]roadband-uk/Pages/home-uk.aspx

then found the Upgrade Wizard on the CD that comes with the BeBox

first I backed up my configuration (which I had already heavily edited months ago using telnet to keep the BEastards out) then debranded the BeBox.. took about 5 mins and worked first time, I restored my old configuration which sat on fine since the firmware version is the same as before apart from branding.

It looks different and feels different, I thought. So lets see if I can set up a DMZ now.. before I do I'll check if the the phone connects to youtube now (of course it wont).

BUT IT DID!!

Simple as that.
DeBranding ftw!!!

I can confirm that the above works!

Just debranded my Be* Speedtouch 780WL with the 6-2-T-3 firmware.

If you need to debrand, make sure you back up the configuration first, then flash the firmware (it may be necessary to set a static IP address if you get an error) and then upload the backed up configuration after a successful flash.

You may find that page useful if you are on Be* or O2 and are suffering the same problems.

An update from me on this ever increasing problem.

Flashing my router worked, but then BBCi came along and proved there was still something up. No BBCi for me. THEN...
I upgraded my Be* account to Be* Pro which uses Annex.M which lo and behold the newer Thompson firmwares DO NOT SUPPORT. So I had a choice, I chose to reflash to Be*'s firmware so I could make the most out of my connection, but losing YouTube in the process.
At the same time I wrote to Be*, Sony and the BBC outlining this strange problem. Sony & the Beeb had nothing much to say, but after a couple of weeks discussion Be* have told me they are working with Thompson to find out what be the matter, so maybe there'll be a fix one day.

HOWEVER

At the same time some nice people made me aware of the Netgear DG834GT router (which Sky internet users used to have and Aol and some BT too I think, also sold retail).. a mystical bit of kit that would solve all my problems at once, also providing me with a very capable wireless router (108mbps and double the distance, also handles multiple clients with ease).
So with no restraint I bought one from eBay for £32 it arrived yesterday morning, I set it all up and it works greater than great, the Netgear firmware is fantastic but I chose to reflash it with DGTeam's updated firmware which is even better.

Everything works how it should, no holding back.
BBCi, YouTube and my Annex.M connection.

So there it is, if you are on Be* and have a few wireless devices then get yourself a Netgear DG834GT router, you'll not be sorry. Just google it and look at the Be* forum, loads of people are converted.
