does anyone sometimes have "emerg. calls only" message on your w910i instead of your own operator name?

Yeah, I sometimes do and I put it down to network issues. It always seems to correct itself in due course.

I get it half the time at home on my K850i yet my other half whos on same network never has a problem .

Yeah got it with my p1 when travelling sometimes... It is network coverage related though.

I think it's a glitch sometimes, I have seen it a few times and we only have one gsm network in NZ!

It's when you're out of your network's coverage, but still within the coverage of 1+ network(s), and therefore, able to make calls to emergency services if you ever needed to.

I understand what it means but how come it can happen when there are 2 phones in the same room, same network and only 1 has this problem ?

If they are two different models then the answer is obvious, that one has a stronger aerial than the other.

So my other halfs cheap Nokia is better than my k850i mmm, ah well
would rather put up with pants reception at home than use his 6233

Don't be knocking cheap Nokias!
They're bloody good phones! Very tough, covers most basic functions and they will last for a long time, and do these things better than most £100+ phones.
