Metal back for G900? |

Is there such a thing as a original or 3rd party metal back cover for the G900? Due to the size of the back cover and the fact it covers 90% of the back i think it`d change the whole feel/build quality of the phone. Just wondering if it was available! Would have thought china would have been onto this but checked e-bay and nothing! |

mmmmmmm.. if the G900 where made out of metal... that would change alot of things. make one custom my only metal phone was the T610 and i can guarantee it was nice to touch, and very elegant.

Oh man you're so right. I mean I really like my G900 but it's SO plastic. I know metal cases would be more expensive, but many great SE phones would look and feel so much better in a 'full metal jacket'. A metal back cover would be a start and shouldn't be hard to produce. Yeah I just dig metal. (I could try and start a small factory. )
I paid a lot of money for my G900, about 350 euro's, because I wanted it so much, so would I have paid maybe 50 euro's more for a full metal special version? Probably yes, and I guess a lot of us customers would. Consider that, SonyEricsson!

The T610 was a quality phone, i loved the styling as well as the build quality, and a big factor of both of these likes was the fact it was made out of "metal" (plastic coated metal, but still!). I would love it if someone would start manufacturing these and i just know for a fact loads of people would buy them! Shame its never gonna happen! |

A metal back for the G900 would make this phone perfect in my opinion....I love this phone, but hate the plastic feel of the backside....maybe if it were stainless steel like the Nokia E71.....oh, that would be great |

Does anyone think they`d be able to do this! It just seems like it could be made quite easily with the right equipment! |

Problem is, the right equipment for mass production will be very expensive. I's only worth investing if you're pretty sure you're gonna sell a lot.

Metal G900... Wouldn't it weight too much then... It may be looking fancy, but I still like it's original black housing more.

it wouldnt be heavy no, i think about the same as it already is, i think the technique is to basically "coat" plastic in a thin film of metal, this just adds strengh and makes it feels better! Although i suppose i could be made from pure metal, the weight of a phone has never really bothered me anyway (within reason!) |

With the right machines, you could make covers out of almost any strip metal. And then, say a plastic cover is maybe 3 grams, and a metal one maybe 30 grams (probably closer to 15). Then the phone would be at most 27 grams heavier. I wouldn't mind. I like to feel it hanging in my pocket. A stainless steel cover would cost about 10 cents in material! But you could also use recycled metal like old copper, tin or even silver and gold if you want to go all the freaking way. Damn, just can't get this out of my mind. If I had the cash I would get me some second hand machinery just for experimenting.
