Actually, the E on Orange phones was always present in most Orange branded models, to differenciate them from their other-network counterparts. It very rarely had anything to do with EDGE, and if it did it was a bit of a fluke.
fatreg will prolly tell you the same thing

I know it has edge because i've been using it on edge, an e appears to replace the g when it has a edge signal and it loads stuff quicker.

Fair enough, just Orange branded up most of their phones with an E, so I'm saying the fact it has EDGE is purely coincidental

hold on!
Orange phones ending in E relate to the fact that they are orange branded and therefore 'enchanced'
it does have edge but it's a fluke!!
I have a Nokia 9210e and that doesn't have edge at all!! but it is orange enhanced! (or so orange claim!)
only issue is that it's a capital E and not a small e, so maybe it's killing 2 birds with 1 stone.
but that what the e on orange phones means!

D600e was a D600 that was tri-Band (D600 was quad-band) and had EDGE. D600e was available sim-free and was not exclusive to Orange so the e can only mean EDGE.

don't mean to be picky here JC...
But it's an D600E and not D600e...
but as I've already pointed out, the e on the end of Orange phones means enhanced (well in their eyes) although they seem to have stopped doing this, the last phone I seem to remember them having a small e on was the 7210, making it a 7210e...
