Hi All,
Im hearing pretty bad complaint's about how new customers are treated compared to existing ones.
this is of course about UPGRADES
over at eForum (Vodafone)
people are bitching about this quite alot.
1, If you change your plan to a higher tariff you will still be getting a handset for more.. however if you look at "3" my pal has upgraded 3mths early he has upped his tariff rom £15 to £30 and got a N96 free isn't that what we call good service?
When I was on 02 I used to have to pay something like £70 for a phone but that varied every 12 months,
People are going on bout Vodafone charging £300 for a phone over there even if your on a £30+ tariff is this correct or w00t?
There also going on about VF's bad customer service 24/7
I wonder how long before one heads to Watchdog
Ive not had any major probs with VF
i'll like to see what happens come May 2009 though as thats my Renewal date
Whats you issues on other providers?
are you ok paying so much for upgrades per yer/18 months etc
rembember the networks have to get a Subsody out of this too we all can't have everything for nothing

I had to pay ~£70 for upgrades for the £25 pm contract(12 mths)
that was over a year ago for w950 and same when I got w900i the prev. Year
But they wouldn't gimme a good deal on my last upgrade so I got a fresh contract for a w960i then when the old one was ending, they gave an offer for a n81 8gb with 9 months half price!!! Was too good to say no. Ended up with two phones..
Next upgrade due in 3 months

Taking 12-month contracts out of the equation for a minute, because thats just asking for trouble (:p), O2 from my experience (unbiased, honest! I've been with all the major networks on contract minus Vodafone), have one of the best retentions teams, followed closely by T-Mobile.
O2, if you threaten to leave, will give you quite alot, probably not exactly what you want (simply because people will try it on, the number of people I've heard who've tried to get PhoneX on TariffX with like a 90% discount off their line rental and a free phone is mad lol).
So upgrading customers will always tend to get the better deal in my book, I've never heard or seen otherwise. If that IS the case with you, pick a better network, one that does value its customers

Well the first thing IMO is it's all about figures and ARPU's as this is partly the basis that Mobile Operators are judged on for those that don't know ARPU is average revenue per user in other words how much we spend. The figures that are relevant here are churned users those that leave the Network as this is viewed very badly and why Networks like to try and hold on to us.
In my experience the way to get the best deal is to have already have given your 30 Days in writing as this way the Network realizes you are serious and they are about to lose you, which they really don't won't to do for the reasons above. At this point instead of speaking to sales you speak to retentions whose job it is to keep you at a reasonable cost they can not perform miracles but they do have a pool of discounts to work with based on your contract length on renewal and monthly spend and this they use to discount the cost of your handset or line rental. If you are not selecting a premium device you may get discounts on both.
For example i had already give my 30 days notice in writing to VodaFone and ended up with a SE X1 for £49.99 on a 18 month contract @£20pm and £4.99pm for the Internet pack which comes to £499.81 over the entire period and is about the same as the Sim free price. Yet i get minutes and Internet use pus 18 months free credit well at least that's how i see it.
As it happens i didn't get on with the X1 so sold it and cancelled the Internet pack so am paying just £20pm +£49.99 which equals £409.99 and as i sold the X1 for £500 less fees have actually made a profit plus all those free minutes that i am paying off over 18 months. Having already been paid and having an upgrade in hand for MAY 2010.
Obviously we want to spend as little as possible and the Networks want as to spend as much but some where in between a deal can be struck. I would also suggest being calm and polite works far better than be rude and aggressive.

I think weather your new or existing the networks need to treat everyone the same. After all the networks would not exist without THE CUSTOMER.

Whats annoying is, on my staff deal (£20/month, 12-month, 1000 minutes, 1000 texts, 75MB internet, phone prices same as £35/month 18-month), I don't get access to retentions.
I currently use something like 200 minutes and 500 texts, so I'm starting to wonder if, other than the 12-month contract, what benefit have I got being on my staff plan? I might just go get one from T-Mobile or Three and get a good retentions deal each year lol

what people are ranting about with Vodafone,
if you don't wanna pay that £300 for a new phone upgrade,
cancel your contract and start again with them
only thing you loose is your number
are people at there right mind to do this?
ive never upgraded with them so I don't know what to exspect tbh
as Bono mentions though is utterley correct!
seem the best network is probaly 3..
I mean if you upgraded up your tariff you would still have to pay for a upgrade phone with the other networks

I used to be with Orange contract years ago and they used to charge huge upgrade fees if you did it early. I find it such a rip off.

it is people who do that are bloody mad,
it's a waste of money you should only get a phone if your not 100% with it after so many months or so, just to change it cos of one stupid feature is beyond me

3 years into being with 3. Ive got £22 discount on my line rental, 12 month VTT 700. Gone from £35 to £13 in 3 years. I only got a 3 skype phone as my upgrade but get 300 mins 400 txt, 25 video mins, 25 mms, 30 mb internet.
I just told retentions that I was going to change to a sim free deal with another provider and they just kept calling back with better and better offers. A bit of luck which rep you get put through to though as well.
Ive also been on all the uk networks and rate 3 as the best value for money.
Only think im waiting on is Blackberry support and I will be a very happy chap!

Ideal way of showing you guys retentions today.
My Mum has been on a O2 12-month contract for the last 2 years, and it's due for upgrade (has been for a month or so).
Now, O2 don't do 12-month anymore, and she doesn't use her phone hardly at all, infact she gives the upgrade to my Dad each year lol.
It's also worth pointing out she was on my anciently-old O2 50% staff discount I haven't been able to use since she had it 2 years ago, and I'll never see it again now they've changed the rules. So bear in mind, rather than putting her at an advantage with the upgrades team, it actually puts her at a DISADVANTAGE, as they won't offer her any discounts because she's already spending next to nothing as it is!
So, she spoke to them on behalf of my Dad today (cause he wants the phone), and this is what they gave her:
- Taken off my staff discount
- 40% discount off the line rental
- 400 minutes, 1000 texts, unlimited O2 to O2 calls
- LG Renoir for £149.99
- Line rental comes to £18/month for 18 months (thats only 50p more than she's paying now!)
Now, my Dad didn't mind paying for the phone, so thats a resonable deal on the tariff at least, given if they hadn't gone through to retentions then staff account were saying not only would she have to move to 18-month but she'd lose the discount and go on one of my 30% discounts instead.
