Hi all,
Well i know some of you are aware of my poor and deteriorating health over the last couple of years. Which all started in 1999 with a prolapsed disc and needed an operation to fix. Then in 2002 i needed a spinal fixation with rods and pins @my L3/4 and L4/5 levels and only helped for a short while before pain returned.
During this time i underwent many procedures such as Ganglion root blocks, Facet joint denervations and specialised treatments such as Pulsed Radio Therapy and had more Epidurals then women with tons of kids.
Well after a really tough last couple of years i changed my Pain Control specialist and also went to see a new spinal surgeon. Which after a Discography to see what was going on resulted in me having a 3 Level Fusion of the Spine in at L3/4 L4/5 L5/S1 Disc's. After an 8 day stay in Hospital i am now home and recovering well although i still have a long way ahead of me before i am fully recovered and need to wear a support brace before standing up or walking.
Here are some pictures of my back one straight on and one side on i may not be the 6 Million Dollar Man but they did have the technology to rebuild me better and stronger than before.
Now there is another reason besides my vanity for posting all this information as whilst in relation to a lot of members here i am ancient. Possibly even older than many of your parents as i am going to be 49 next birthday in May.
Now when i was younger i played Cricket and also BasketBall for both for my School and County and did Judo when younger. I trained various styles of Martial Arts right up to my late 30's so was fit and active. But i also did stupid things in relation to my back and that's why i would just like to warn some of you that although you feel indestructible now i can't say enough how important it is to take care of your health and not to abuse your body as later on if it catches up with you it can be a terrible price to pay.
Marc

Wow, you have been through the mill with your back, sorry to hear you've been having so many problems and pain, hope things improve for you soon
I should take a bit more care of my back - my posture's pretty bad, and I do tend to slouch in chairs and lie on the sofa when on the laptop (like now) which I imagine doesn't do my back much good!
That's a heck of a lot of ironwork inside your body Dogmann! All the best and hope they get your pain under control.

Imagine all the fun you'll have, setting off those walkthrough X-ray machines at airports .
Seriously, glad the op went well and brought positive benefits, as an OAP myself i concur with your end sentiments too.

Haven't been able to even consider flying for a long time now but as they are Titanium they won't set anything off any way.

Imagine terrorists hiding titanium guns in their underwear...
(That would only work if the bullets were made from titanium and since titanium is strong but very light, bullets made out of this material would have very little punching power.)

Christ, I'm going to be royally screwed when I'm older, I'm always hurting myself and although I havent done anything serious or even broke any bones, my knees and hip are already starting to, well, you know!
Hopefully in the 34 years it'l take me to reach your age there will be a cure/fix for every disease/problem ever.
Dogmann, hope you get better swiftly!

I hope you start to recover and try to live life to the full, regardless of your illness. Its great spreading out the message of procaution and saftey, as at the same time courage and recovery from such an illness.
Im sure in a few years time they will be able to rebuild your hole body, and you will come out stronger than ever before.. the worlds first ever terminator robot! |
