I expect the SE Software version relates more to the broad feature set of the software, for example, there may be several ROM versions over the life of a particular software version?

I would have expected that the updates for the X1 would have been delivered in the same way as with all other HTC phones, i.e. as downloadable ROM packages with built in installers.
