Deric,
I saw your post on other thread re: MMS. You said:
"MMS: mid to late Feb '03"
Thanks for the info. |

ok, first problem is that i need a phone NOW! and i don't have one at all. if ATT is really getting the P800 in march is there anything i can do with them where they will let me upgrade phones or something? or should i just get a t68 and wait a year? |

You're elligible for an upgrade every 6 months w/contract extension, so if you get a t68 now, you'll have to pay more for the P800 in march |

Really?? Woohoo!!
Well, maybe.
I am still dissatisfied with how AT&T is:
- handling MMS (or not!)
- charging 0.10 for every outgoing SMS on top of the $13 I pay for 4 MB of data - what BS!
- refusing to unlock their phones
- and most recently, there are reports that new AT&T branded T68i's and T300's have had the 'save picture' menu item disabled - very disturbing!
So on second thought, I'm not sure if I will get a P800 through AT&T when it becomes available. Perhaps I will order an unlocked unit from Europe and hook it up with a T-mobile SIM. Or it's possible that T-Mobile will have the P800 also by then. I'll have to do a cost/benefit analysis to see if I should cancle my AT&T account and pay the early termination fee, or just let it lapse after I sign-up with T-Mobile.

Attention AT&T! You'd better start supporting MMS or I'm switching to T-Mobile! |

Wait, so does that mean if I bought the T68i in October 02, I will be elegible for an upgrade in March 03 (6 months later)?
What is the benefit? Discount on phone? Better plan terms?
BTW I hope you realize none of my anti-AT&T comments are directed at you personally. Actually, I'm very thankful that several reps from many different companies lurk here on Esato. Hopefully some of our feedback here makes its way to the decision makes at the big SPs.
So thank you, Deric, for keeping us Esatoans up to date with AT&T news.

T-Mobile also lets you upgrade if you sign a new contract. Don't know what the restrictions are though. |

The benifit is that you get a new phone. Because the phones are pro-rated, we take a financial hit every time we sell one, so we ask you to sign a new contract when you buy at pro rated prices, that way we have a year to get the lost money back in your monthly recurring charge. There are people who will get a new phone every 2 weeks if we let them and they're almost always the ones complaining that we sell the T68i at $199 when if you buy it from ericsson it $405. if you were to buy it from AT&T with no contract extension it would still only cost you $305 |

Okay, I hear what you are saying. So can I expect AT&T to sell the P800 for a very reasonable price when it does come out?
I mean, I'd like to re-up with AT&T if they would just address the issues I raised above (start MMS support, eliminate 0.10 SMS charge for users with big data plans, and phone unlocking for int'l users). AT&T's GSM signal reception in Los Angeles has been pretty good for me, so like I said, If they could fix those things, I'd be less likely to want to migrate to T-Mobile.

It all depends on your defintion of reasonable, I'm sure it'll be less than in the UK, but more than the T68i, Honestly, I haven't a clue about the price, but MMS is coming, and I wouldn't count on them dropping the sms pricing anytime soon, but they are going to be doing a new sms plan soon |
