Folks,
The Internet could run out of IP's (IP addresses) in one year!
It could be worse than an all-out nuclear war. In fact, we dread to think what would happen if people weren't able to get their daily internet fix. Pandemonium, that's what'll happen if we run out of IP addresses. Of course experts have a much more measured view.
Claims made by Internet legend Vint Cerf suggest that out of the 4.2 billion possible IP addresses, there are only 600 million left, which in all honesty is a hell of a lot, but with the amount of expected mobile devices logging onto the internet, they expect that we will run out in around a year's time.
Interview with Internet founder -
When the first internet protocol structure was put in place in 1977 by Vince Cerf and his team, little did they know that 31 years later, the world would be on the verge of running out of free IP addresses.
According to Cerf, out of the 4.2 billion possible addresses (that's 256 x 256 x 256 x 256), there are only around 600 million left and with the expected explosion in the number of mobile devices connected to the internet, the world could run out of free addresses as early as late 2009/early 2010.
He told The Times that "This is like the internet running out of telephone numbers and with no new numbers, you can't have more subscribers".

Yeah, they're rolling out IPv6 addresses at the moment apparently.
No idea what that means in technical terms, but a hell of a lot of new addresses.
What's 256x256x256x256x256x256? It's that many.

Yeah. Try and run out of THAT many addresses.

I have to remeber about 20 current IP addresses that are in the format 256.256.256.256. Add 2 extra lots onto that and I am going to be completely lost!
