Hi
I want to know if there is a limit at which retailers can sell cell phones at a certain price and not exceeding certain amounts.
Take for instance that maybe the retailer can sell a Nokia N95 at $300 or maybe not exeeding $320
Phones are too expensive here an when you check them onj the internet you really wonder that they are way to cheap. They even fit to go to the bargain thread.

of course there is no limit, obviously your country has no laws on overpricing hence the demand vs. supply scenario that will determine the phone price.
i however feel that certain phones like the Nokia N96 really are overpriced, basically, if i can purchase a simple Dell laptop for the price of the n96 (no operator subsidies), it becomes ridiculous to even consider buying the damn phone!

I think it's up to the sellers actually, at least here in Dominican Republic, the cellphones doesn't tend to get their prices lowered too much, for example, Orange Dominicana has these offers:
w880 12,990 (US$369.03)
w890 13,990 (US$397.44)
as you can see, the W880 is way overpriced, and even though the W890 itself is a bit too, at least it was introduced about 1 month ago here, so it kind of justify the price, however, i think the w880, being the model succeeded by the w890 should have a much lower price.
(Both prices are in a PAYG contract) |

Over here the N95 still sells for NZD1000 thats about 400GBP

Yes, but can your simple Dell laptop receive TV broadcast signals or take photographs at 5MP? And if that's the case, what would you say to folks who are splashing wads of cash for a Touch HD, 8800 Carbon Arte or worse, a Vertu Constellation? On the other hand, some low price netbooks from Asus and Acer are available for less than US$300, so should people stop buying phones that cost more than that?

well, a N96 isn't exactly in the Vertu range right? Apples vs oranges anyone?
the point is, if nokia can make the 5800 cheap, why overprice the N96? at least the Communicator series was worth it's (high) price, but the N96? come on....
