Hello guys. I recently came across a new type of connector (new to me) that you can find in headsets like the HPM-85. It is the FAST PORT. I dont know what it is. Can you explain it to me?

Also I've heard that the K790 does not support Fast Port, whereas the K810 do. Is it true? And does that mean I cannot use the HPM-85 with my K790. Please reply!

fast port is the plug on the bottom (or side on some newer phones) that you use for the charger

All Sony Ericsson phones from the K750 on support the fastport connector (including the K790). Only the upcoming X1 doesn't.

??

no slower than usb mini, actually you need to take more care with usb mini. Fastport you can just snap in or out.

But if you go to the SE Website and in the accessories section if you select HPM-85, it says it wont be compatible with the K790. Again it has a fast port connecter. So what is the reason. HPM-83 supports K790. But on se's website it says it supports K750 then K810. But there is no K790 in between.

well does it list the k610? no. but it lists the w660 and the only difference between k610 and w660 is firmware+design. I can 100% garntee if it works with k810 it will work with k790

the remote functions may not work 100%, but connector will fit and the audio will work

I can verify that hte connector fits and that the audio works.

Whether the play, fastforward etc buttons work: you'll need someone else to confirm. There is no reason they shouldn't, though it's strange SE didn't specifically mention the K790.

It's hard to imagine that it would work on K810 but not K790. Both have virtually identical firmware.

Although all headphones may have fastport connectors , they are not shown as compatible with all cellphones as some features may not work.

I think Nokias charger and handsfree connectors are much more user friendly

One has to be careful while removing from the fastport.
Always pull upwards while removing and never pull out sideways or outwards directly. It might result in some pins getting bent, or lead to long term fastport problems .

Hence its not the most user friendly port.

Well, time to put this thread to rest now, isn't it.

I use HPM-85 on my K800 and all functions work perfectly and the sound quality is very good. K800 is the 3G version of K790, everything else is identical.

It should work if the HPM85 is genuine (not a fake one)
