T68 drops full singal every few seconds! Whats going on?!? HELP |

have had my Sony Ericsson T68m since August. I updated in August to R6F004 firmware (i think that is the version) and it has been working flawlessly... except for:
Now my reception will not hold. It will show FULL signal strength (like it normally does at my house and work) but now every few seconds, it will drop to ZERO signal for a second or two, and then return to full! I can't make ANY calls, or receive because if this. The weird thing is that it was like this for a few days last month, and then it was ok for a couple weeks, and then started acting up again last week. My phone is useless! I haven't dropped the phone or got it wet, i have babied it!
I know it isn't the service provider because my buddy has the EXACT same phone on the same carrier, and his works flawlessly (like my used to)
Any ideas?
Any help is GREATLY appriciated!
Thanks,

I really don't know but once few years ago a friend of mine had that problem with a Nokia. In the end they gave him a new copy of his sim and it woked fine

I have a NOKIA 3390 that I put my SIM in to use while my T68 is on the fritz. And the Nokia works flawlessly with my SIM... so I doubt it's the SIM card... Oh, and I tried my SIM in my buddies T68, and it worked fine. and when his SIM is in my T68, it still doesn't work. So I figure that it has to be the phone. I just don't know what I can do about it. I have a concern that since I got my firmware updated 'not' at a SE service center, that Sony will void my warrenty? Not that I would tell them though... but I would assume they would find out if they check out my phone though
Any ideas?
Thanks for your help so far guys!!!

It's a phone fault, so i guess take it to the place you got it from and cliam warrenty, or take it to a SC

Had this on two t68/i handsets, it tends to develope when dirty in and around the ariel, theres a little hole (with the covers removed) on the top of the phone where the plate ariel foil enters the circuit boards (originally an external ariel was to plug in here) i think muck gets in there and interfers with the signal, after cleaning they often work fine as it seams to be a pressure joint (moisture in the air can break down a pressure joint), i bet you get a high signal showing, try to make a call & at the point the phone tries to connect the signal goes completely, thats a sure sign of a bad joint in the ariel circuit. if you bang the phone on a hard surface it should work but it will just f*ck it up eventually. best take it to a service centre, completely deny any knowledge of your software upgrade & they will assume it was done at another service center or something, as long as you have the imei on a receipt if they ask for it. |

This is exactly what I have! I removed the antenna cover last month, and saw the way the connections were made on the antenna, and I figured that those were getting dirty, but I didn't dare try to clean them for fear of breaking somthing!
I will probably have to mail my phone to a service center, because I don't think there is one very close in Minnesota
Thanks for the help every one!

I also had the exact problem you seem to be experiencing. At first it was intermitent but soon became a continous problem. I was able to temporarily 'fix it' by placing my SIM in another handset and then replacing it in the T68. However, this only worked for a few days. In the end, I exchanged phones under the guarantee from my service provider.
It was, however, definitely a handset problem and not a SIM card fault. Incidently, at first my service provider had the cheek to say I must be an area with a weak signal... that was until I pointed out that the network had a pylon situated just across the road from my home.
My advice is to get the phone fixed/exchanged asap as the problem will not go away. Good luck! |
