How does the T700 let you know if there is an unread message or you missed a call, is there a led light or does it show you on the screen?

It shows you on the screen. Says you have a new message.
I tried sniffing coke once but didnt like it. The bubbles kept going up my nose  |

Does it still show this after the screen goes back to sleep, like the K750?, as I understand this is different?

No. You have to press the volume button. This Will show the standby clock and also any other symbol eg. an envelope if you have a message.
K750 run's on an older software platform than the T700 and there have been a few changes since the K750's release. |

Can you choose your own MP3 as incoming message sound?
I'm about to buy the T700 and it seems you can't. I would have a hard time getting used to a standard message sound... |

Yes can use mp3's as message tones but you will only hear the first 7 seconds of the tone and then it will stop.

Mine is 5 months old and I didn't see any stratch, except one but that's because I drop it onto the asphalt
