Nokia 'Comes With Music' service won't kill iTunes |

Not such a good service after all:
Once the year’s subscription is complete, customers can keep all of their music - but two years after that one year period, users will be able to keep the content on their current device/PC but will no longer be able to transfer it to other computers.
And, because the music is shrouded in DRM, they won't be able to burn it to CD or keep it in some other way - in other words, the music won't belong to them forever.

Ouch!
So that was the catch. A deal-breaker if you ask me.

Surprise that a MacWorld article would say so...
Anyway, it's not exactly true - you can transfer them to a new PC/phone once every 3 months after your subscription is over.

Hi all,
Well unless i missed something isn't the Music free to start with? so it's not exactly like it cost you anything in the first place. Plus of course if you then buy another device that comes with Music you can have your Music free again for a year. Which is quite different and a lot cheaper than having to pay for all your Music from iTunes as you buy it isn't?
I haven't seen any other device besides this offer from Nokia that allows you to download and listen to a huge catalogue of Music from the 4 Major labels and all for free. So just how much would this cost using iTunes and just how is that better then?

Music should never be completely free otherwise how would the poor artists get paid!!
These 'all you can eat' services are fantastic. Unlimited downloads for a whole year? I'm up for it. Great stuff.

Don't you pay a rather large premium when purchasing a 'comes with music' phone? Wouldn't that be like paying for the music?

Correct me if I'm wrong but the phone that Nokia was offering wasn't what you'd call a premium device was it?
Anyway, I thought it was up to the operators to set the subscription price. With SE it is anyway.
I think, from what I read, it works out with PlayNowPlus, something like $.33 a track which is half the price of iTunes is it not?

Your right, it is as if you are paying a large premium. The price of this handset i don't think its going to be subsidized at all. Since from what I have read elsewhere no network is really looking at promoting the music for free this handset brings as all networks these days have got der own deals when it comes to releasing music on handsets etc.

@MrMyagi
Actually that was originally the position but then quite a few Networks changed there minds and decided to partner Nokia after all.
@all
Really i think we need to wait and see what happens when devices that come with Music are actually released as to what and if there are any additional costs or not. But the point i was making due to the huge catalogue of Music that will be available it will still work out much cheaper then buying your Music from iTunes or on CD.
But a lot would depends on the users requirements for me this would be of no interest at all due to both the encoding used and the fact that i already have most of my Music and just add to it. I also prefer to have a CD and then convert it to a format and quality i want and really don't have enough interest in all the new releases to want to make use of it. But I'm sure for many it will be welcomed and give them access to nearly all the Music they could want at little or no extra cost.
This is only one part of what Nokia are doing in bringing services and the ability to interact with others to their devices in a easy and seamless way and is what OVI is all about. Again it may not be great for all of us but I'm sure for many it is welcome and quite a good USP for Nokia and their devices.
