Hello,

I'm going slightly crazy tring to find a gps accessory solution with this mobile. From the sounds of it, and especially after what I read here, the HGE-100 gps accessory is as good as useless. The software is rubbish, and I'm not going to be paying any monthly installments to use it.

What I'm looking for is a bluetooth grps device which is compatible with this phone. I went through the list of bluetooth gps devices on amazon and couldn't find one which seemed to be compatible. The w580 was sometimes reported as compatible, is there really such a difference between it and the w580i?

What I'm looking for is:

- a w580i compatible bluetooth gps device
- a free program/mapping solution which I can use with this device on the w580i

Is this possible? Any solution involving gps accessrory and this phone is greatly appreciated. Thanks in anticipation.

Ric

Well if you find decent java gps app that supports external gps enabler (like HGE100 headset) you should be able to use it... Or wait some time, I'm sure there are HGE100 owners around the forum. Someone probably has experience with this.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. That's actually something I forgot to ask. Does the HGE100 lock you into their crappy software, or are you free to use whichever app with it?

I read in this forum that there's very little software which is actually compatible with it. Can anyone verify that's still the case please?

Cheers

Well that's the thing I don't know exact... The reason produced HGE100 is to make non-gps phone equped with GPS receiver.. I have heard that it should work with google maps, but I'm not 100% sure about this...

It doesn't have built in gps receiver... You have to use GPS over gprs. Gmaps app would work using GPRS internet, but not gps... There are GPS enabler headphones from but it hasn't been comfirmed that they would work with W580 too.
