I've received a tip claiming that Sony Ericsson are working on a new 12 megapixel camera phone codenamed the Kokura. No idea where the source of these rumours came from (I'm checking with the tipster as I write), and no pictures either, but the tip is surprisingly detailed, even down to the being chipset used ( a TI 3240, apparently!)
Also from the same tip was news of the Sony Ericsson Yurika. Anyone heard anything about these phones? The details are up on my site, MobileMentalism.com

Lol that sounds pretty cool, but I don't know if I can believe it yet. Yurika sounds like Eureka, so you'd hope its something special if it does exist!

I know Ericsson is or was working with a new platform that can handle this amount of megapixels. So it could be true.

I know there a few Japanese developed handsets on the way but those codenames sound a but suspect to me.

Yes great news. If the platform can support that amount of mega pixels I don't see a reason why they won't make such thing. Also great camera driver and firmware codding would be required for this one, but can take it imho.

They should also put better sensors in the camera module while they're at it. SE was the first to put cams in phones so they mustn't be losing to Samsung in this department. |

They won't mess this up. The problem for this period was the DB3150 platform they made in order to increase phone performance and megapixels. And as any other new platform it was buggy. I think that's the reason why reduced the quality of their phones (mainly the 5mp cameras)... But C905 and the other 12MP if it is coming shouldn't be reduced in quality at all IF the platform supports that.

Kokura is a place name and also a family name so it doesn't follow the pattern of girls names.. but happy to be proved wrong..
Yurika is a girls name... so that fits with the pattern !
I will not type the Kanji for these names because there are too many possibilities, and it's not really important.

I wouldn't count on that.

Next year offerings from other brands would be 9-10MP so I guess would hold back if they do have something like this up their sleeves. |

base on your website, it is noted that the phone will be have S60 interface.
i dont believe that line
it is because SE has already own UIQ and why do they need/want/will change it to S60?
just an opinion |

^^^Well because of the Symbian Foundation which is coming into effect next year, it is logical to use S60 because the Symbian Foundation's platform will be backwards compatible with S60. When it comes into effect, UIQ will be killed off.

Assuming that this information is true, is it not bad for SE that this has been leaked? I could see that this kind of leak could have been originated from a competitor, to hurt SE's sales of the C905. How many potential C905 buyers will skip the C905 and wait for the 12 MP model instead?
