My daughter (yes, I'm old enough) has a 850i that she got from Orange about 6 months ago. She says that it sometimes turns itself off, she can't hear callers etc and it's generally a pain in the ****!
Will a firmware upgrade sort this out? I don't know what firmware she has on it now but presumably there must be a newer one available that might sort out these problems.
Anyone advise please?

You can try a firmware update.
Try to use Sony Ericsson update service.

thanks for that. Really just wanted to know if anyone else had these problems and a firmware update sorted it out?
Thanks

Hi, I have this phone and love it. It could be one of two things

A hardware fault which means it is physically broken or damaged, maybe dropped or just a faulty handset.

A Software fault, which is very likely, means the software is damaged. This the easy option to solve, you can use SEUS to update the firmware and it should work. A test you can do quickly though is, do a master reset. You can do this quickly with no computer nothing, just on the phone. Go to Menu>Settings>General>Master reset and then click Reset all. However make sure ALL stuff is copied off before you do this as doing this will delete everything off the phones memory. (not the Memory card or simcard, but I take the Memory card out anyway just to be safe) If the problem still persists then try the second option, witch is SEUS, if it still persists, you will have to seek medical advice ( No like take it back to Orange, if it is only 6 months old it should still be under warranty) I personally think this is likely to be a software fault, as I have had funny stuff like this happened, and a quick master reset did the trick.

Hope I was any help...

Edit: Sorry if I sound patronizing, you look like an old member here, so you probably may already know most of the stuff I babbled on about

Not patronising at all and thanks. I have had many phones and updated them but before doing this with this particular one, thought I would ask.
I will back up and try a reset but then, update it as well.
Thanks for your time

Take a look at the the K850 Firmware thread.

The phone is more stable with the latest firmware, but i dont know if it available for Orange Branded phones.
