As some of you know, I've been looking for work for ages now, had some good luck, but mostly bad luck and even the good luck turned to nothing.

Anyway, mum comes upstairs and interrupts me on the xbox (woman doesn't understand!)....anyway there was a message for me on the answer machine from Halfords, they looked over my CV and want me to give them a call back, problem is I got this message at 11pm tonight and the message has been sat there since 9.15am this morning. I'll give them a call back at 9am tomorrow, but I'm guessing this won't help my chances

Yes you got the message late but it should not mess up your chances with them. Just tell them you were out all day and never got the message till late. Just keep at it you cant only do your best at keeping it going. Best of luck.

Ye that's what I'm going to do mate, apologise for calling the day after, will tell them I was out all day in Norwich and didn't get it till gone 10, they should be ok with it, I'll make sure I get up at 8.30am, walk the dog and give them a call at 9.

It's only an 8min walk to get their, but like I said to my sister, they told me to phone them up, they don't always like people just showing up as it puts them on the spot...so I'll call them because they asked me to, not because I can't be bothered...I like walking so I wouldn't mind.. (eg I'm off to asda tonight, it's an 8mile round trip, but means I get some exercise and I get to listen to some podcasts )

My one big problem is, I'm off to america for 18 days on Nov 18th, I think this is putting a few employers off, the fact that I'd start, work for just over a month and then have half a month off.
I'm not prepared to cancel a family holiday for a small job like this as we only go once every 2-3 years so it's not like I swan off on holiday all the time

It is sodding annoying when people say to you "well get a job then" and you want to tell them how bloody hard it is!, I haven't got someone to hand me a job, or someone who can get me in etc, just me myself and I trying to get any job! (not mc donalds etc though...too proud )

I went through a period years back where i just had no luck too. And no i would not cancel a holiday you paid for just for a low paid job. Some employers normally ask you at interview if you have any holidays booked.

I was thinking about saying nothing, then 2 weeks before the holiday tell them that my cousin is getting married abroad and wants me there and that I'm going...something like that, at least I will have worked there a month, and it would be easier to let me go on holiday then to get someone else.

Rather then tell them I have a holiday planned, and then they pick someone who doesn't because that's easier for them.

But is lying like that ok to get a job? (a low job)

Family meeting vs job interview

Oh dilemma. When will you be starting if you get the job?

Always better to tell them in the interview mate, legally they are not allowed to make a decision of giving you the job, based on the fact you have a holiday booked. Be honest and upfront with them. Good luck mate.

as proc has said having holidays booked shouldn't swing it at all one bit, they also have to honour any holiday you have booked....

I'll tell them like I told other employers, I'd obviously take it as unpaid holiday because I would be new.

Gave them a call at 9am, and it's not like a *personal* interview, they said they've rented a room at the job centre and they are getting a few people to come down and they will pick as few.

The interview is 11:45am on tuesday...at the job centre, which isn't to bad because I have an appointment at the job centre on tuesday at 10.30am anyway

Think it went well,

3 times he said "Robin I must say you've come across very well, your well presented, very confident, well spoken and your cv is very well presented"

he even said he loved the fact that it was only on one bit of paper

He said it quite a few times lol, said that if the did hire me, he wants to put me in the technology department with the sat navs and car computers etc....brilliant

Don't want to get ahad of myself, but they only had a few app forms and said for me to fill it in and they will be contacting me early next week, but he said make sure I have the form filled in because I probably will be needing it

Hope this comes through because I have to start a YMCA course in 4 weeks time otherwise

Oh, he also said he likes the fact that I give full answers and go into detail confidently, he said the guy before me just said "yes,no,yes,no" and that's not what they need when selling to a customer.

So fingers crossed.

I couldn't imagine having a job, because I've been trying to get one for nearly 12 months now, and I've not worked in the past....I would become an upstanding member of society

Apart from the coke habit.
