I've been given this UMTS/EDGE modem (simlocked to italian provider Tre, I think it's the same thing as UK's Three) by a friend who can't get it to work on her computer. I tried it on the computer in question, and sure enough it didn't do much of anything. I then tried it on my computer; it saw it as a USB device, a mass storage device and a CD-ROM, and windows said it installed it correctly. I'm now supposed to find the necessary software in its data partition, but nothing at all appears in explorer.
I tried a firmware upgrade and two different dashboard upgrades, but they don't see the modem. They search for it a bit, then tell me I should make sure it's connected - but it is!

I fired up SiSoft Sandra to see how the computer sees the modem exactly, thinking maybe the modem is some non-mainstream version requiring special drivers, but only managed to raise more questions. Where I usually see the manufacturer and model of whatever USB device I have connected, I see this:

??? (12D1) ??? (1003)

Wow. Helpful.
I'm now completely out of ideas, and I hope someone can help me figure this out. I'm running XP SP3 (not Vista) on both of my computers, and my friend's computer is running Windows FLP.
