3: Apple Was Wrong To Pick O2 For 3G iPhone
3 says O2’s network quality doesn’t do justice to Apple’s 3G iPhone
3 claimed that O2 was the wrong network for the iPhone at its annual summer ball last week.
O’Beirne claimed that Apple had picked the wrong partner. He said: ‘The iPhone is not on the right network, a handset is only as good as its operator.’
A spokesman later told Mobile that ‘O2 has the least developed 3G network’, and questioned its pricing policy.

Apparently Apple didn't check the 3G networks of their partners, in the Netherlands the iPhone is sold by T-Mobile, and we have the same situation here, they have the least developed 3G network in our country.
KPN (our largest network, now exclusively selling the Nokia N96 WITH Mobile TV!) and Vodafone have much better 3G networks. |

From experience here in UK. T Mobile have lately one of the best 3G networks and is better than their own GSM coverage. 3UK is solid too though i have yet to experience 3G on Orange or Vodafone though apparently people say they have the best. Im on O2 and where i live 3G is solid though wherever else i go its pretty poor. I noticed inside a city centre O2 store which was on a high street not underground or anything. The iphone had no 3G coverage in the shop. It was only recieving Edge. But yes 3UK have very solid coverage now. |

T-Mobile in my opinion have the best network in the UK atm but Vodaphone do have the only 7.2Mb HSPA network running right now. At the moment I am using 3UK but I have used TMo, Orange, and O2.
I think Apple chose O2 for reasons other than the strength of their 3G coverage and I have read reports of people struggling to get a 3G signal.

I agree with what 3UK are saying, I thought the same when Apple announced their UK partner as O2. But it really just sounds a bit like sour grapes doesn't it?
I live in Warrington, Cheshire, and yes, the O2 coverage is rubbish. I had an O2 sim in my K810i, and couldn't get a 3G signal for toffee. Just impossible anywhere I went. I laugh when I see the iPhone 3G in the CPW round here, thinking about all the people being conned into buying this ultra pricey 3G phone that will never see a 3G signal  .
However I don't agree that 3UK have a solid signal. It is by far the worst of any of the networks. Maybe in Cities it's quite good, but anywhere else it's pretty weak. I don't see how they can criticise anyone really.
I'm with Vodafone and get a full 3G signal all the time round here, so they suit me to the ground.

They chose them the same way they chose their US partner I believe. They were the biggest operator.

Apparently iphone users now have new firmware that gives them better 3G signal. It must have not been getting 3G signal where there normally would be one. |

the iPhone prob would be better suited on 3,
cos they offer more useage for £5 a month for a start 02 claim they offer unlimited but it's capped at 200MB.
Apple prob only took note on 02 cos there prob the most popular network here in the uk

Apple picked o2 cuz of them bein the biggest network in the uk in terms of customers. T mobile as far as i am aware and read it certain share der masts wit 3 network.that is only reason y der 3g coverage is good.but wot you'l find is that it is mainly cities etc they have better coverage.der is a tmobile cust service centre near glasgow and signal is non existant plus up in certain areas of wales n north scotland the coverage is pants.wot people have to remember is that o2 r da only network who don't have joint sharin of masts in the uk wit other networks in order to improve coverage.they r workin on der own to improve coverage on der own masts without havin da need to share unlike other networks.i would love to see how other uk networks coverage is like without them havin to share masts.also for the millionth time i really don't know why miss uk you have to insist that o2has a 200mb usage limit for der internet data.each time you say that in other threads me and others who work at o2 have to constantly say to you.that is not true.but for some reason you never seem to understand simple english that o2 have der internet as unlimited subject to excessive usage limit which means der is not a set figure for how much data you r allowed to use unlike other networks like 3.is that clear miss uk or do i have to explain that again in another way that will make it clear to you.?
Ps i also think apple looked at customer satisfaction levels on all networks before makin der decision since the csi which is the customer satisfaction index of satisfied customers each network has is an important factor before decided if a network is right n for 3years runnin o2 is at number one includin surveys carried out independently by jd power which i think is the name of the company who carry out these tests

I heard it was T Mobile who had an agreement with O2 with masts not 3. O2 unlimited data is capped at 500mb per month. I went over it once cos i used Google Maps too much. Whoops. 3 does have upto 3 giga byte for 5 quid. |

3UK and T-Mobile share their 3G networks to improve coverage. I don't see anything wrong with that. If all networks shared masts we'd have great coverage.

bonovox as far as i remember i believe you are on O2 pay as you go? I believe they do have a fair limit due on da pay and go service. and no O2 does not share its masts. and golden yes nothing wrong with sharing masts however it also shows how the networks are struggling too, to finance der own masts or make them stronger themselves, that is why they have decided to share. thats what i think tho.

I dont even get normal reception let alone 3G reception on 3 where i live, so for me its a good thing its on o2

Yeah not long back i was in Happisburgh in Norfolk. My brother is on Orange and could barely get 1 bar. Myself on O2 i got 5 most of the time. Thats why mast sharing is good. Though for some reason where i live last night the O2 network was dead for 4 hours. I kept getting NO ACCESS TO NETWORK and 3G signal kept jumping back to GSM. Then when i tried to connect via GSM it would not. Then i could not even make a call. Kept saying busy tone. Now i never ever used to get any of them problems with O2. Just lately its getting worse. Something to do with heavy iphone users i think. |

02 used to share masts with 3 I got told this from a
3 Advisor in store last year, now there sharing with T-Mobile.
Do Vodafone share with anyone or do they have there own masts in conjuction with higher 3.5G services?
