Phone Upgrade from P1i (SE G900 or Nokia E66) |

Guys!
Have been using the SE P1i ever since it was launched. Have got bored with it. The color has faded out and ht back button has given up. I have also given up on SE to launch its successor.
I was a confused between going in for a G900 or a E66. Would really appreciate if you put up your opinion on it.

Id most definetly get the E66 or even the E71 if i were you. HSDPA, 369mhz CPU, loads of apps and games available for s60, Flashlite3.0 support, accelerometer for Auto Rotating UI, updated Eseries os9.2 interface, metal body, good 3.2mp cam, slim, and brilliant web browser. The only thing the G900 KIND OF has over E66 is the 5mp camera, and Touchscreen if that's important to you.

..oops. Sad, really. The next thing will be a "MID" from nvidia - and that's apparently Windoes mobile only.
Imo, the best bet is on independent developers taking charge and forcing new phones to have general support, or else become lousy flops for not allowing those programs. Otherwise, we're going to get an endless stream of half- finished devices with either endless "support" like with nokias incremental bugfixing, or no development at all beyond the visuals on the walkman, like with SE.
Optionally, just ditching the entire thing and deliberately choosing a linux device based on an open platform, or with an option to change the OS altogether. Which will be a new asynchronous chip architecture altogether, probably, since no one apparently are capable of seeing the potential in arm and actually use it for something useful. Because ditching the mobile industry altogether is obviously the only way to avoid ending up with a phone without an option to change the font, the window manager, control the screen drawing or the default screens, the program associations, the format of the pictures you take - as well as get stuck with erratic mail without real sync, pasting text that /almost/ works, and video- streaming that unfortunately won't be fixed since support thought five minutes of swedish tv was all everyone would ever reasonably ask for on a mobile that was supposed to support "streaming media".
It's just not good enough, see. The customers who are unhappy with how SE botched uiq after psion won't buy new media- phones, or devices for watching mobile tv - unless it also has a real program base with apps that can run reliably(apart from the lightsaber app), and are supported for real, as if they were programs developed for people who buy it - you know - expecting to get something in return for their money? In the way that if it says "supports imap", then it might actually mean "supports imap". And not "sort of has erratic imap support that's actually broken compared to the official specification. Or where "syncml support" means: "yes, we've actually tested that it works using the generic network stack, and didn't just run it through the emulator with no error correction.
I guess what I'm saying is that we're not going to get that kind of product as part of any current sales- strategy. Bummer. |

Anyone who has been using a P1i for more than a year is as good as facing a war!
Cant wait for X1 to be released and be stable. I guess its not going to happen for another 8-10 months.
The thing that interests me in G900 is:
Touchscreen
5.0 MP Camera (though i heard the pics are just as good as 3.0MP)
A used to UIQ interface (have been using SE phones since P800)
Cons:
The design does not look classy
Price tag
No GPS
The thing that interests me in E66 is:
Accelerometer
GPS
Very classy Design
Cons:
3.2 Mp Camera
No touchscreen

I would take G900 over E66 anytime, because of touchscreen and UIQ. It is also a little bit cheaper in my country. |

Even i am more inclined towards the G900 as of now.
Does the maroon or the black color look good?
Does G900 run SMP?
Is the display same as the P1i?
As the G900 does not come with a memory card can i use the same memory card from my P1i?
If any user who has shifted from P1i to a G900 come up with some pros and cons i would really appreciate it.

Nokia E66 has HSDPA and Edge over the G900, while the G900 has the touchscreen and 5mp over the its counterpart. Two different symbian OSs and that's really it.
Depending on what you'll be using the phone for you can't really say one is better than the other overall.

What is a "joke" about UIQ?

1. I prefer the Dark Brown one
2. It's a little bit smaller, about 2.4", but is not deepened as in P1, so it is easier to touch it with fingers
3. You will be able to use your M2 card without problems
I am also going to shift from P1i to G900. I do not consider Xperia because it would make my HPM-90 and M2 card useless. also X1 is a little bit too big for me. More like PDA than a phone.
I also do not see any jokes in UIQ, am I missing something?
