O2 Not Stocking The N96

iPhone targets and budgets force O2 to omit Nokia phone

O2 will not stock the Nokia N96, arguably the most anticipated phone of the year, when it launches on 1 October.

The operator is believed to have allocated the majority of its subsidy budget to the Apple 3G iPhone for the remainder of the financial year, leaving it unwilling to subsidise the expensive Nokia device as well.

The N96 is still a good phone but not quite the amazing upgrade it should have been. Though i think despite the iphones success O2 should not be putting all its energy into just that phone. There is still so much the iphone cannot do and with quite a few features missing. O2 should concentrate on all its phones and customers not just the iphone. Yes i know they probably need to make a profit and keep pushing the iphone but not at the expense of excluding other top phones that other customers may want.

rumour is that the iphone which has got mms compatible and a better cam will be out next year. so i am no surprised with how o2 are acting. at the end of the day they don't want a problem ridden n95 8gig 2 version aka the n96 on der hands.

IMO O2 has lost sight of the real world since the launch of the iPhone, I have always held O2 in high regard but some of their business decisions just don't make sense to me, I'm not particularly interested in the Nokia but even if I was and O2 were to stock it there severe lack of 12 month contracts puts me off O2 entirely!

And before you give me the "you get a better deal on an 18month contract" its BS if I was getting such a good deal then that means O2 lose out and if so why promote them and stop the 12 months??

What I do get is tied into a longer term contract with twice the amount of minutes I need/want, more texts than I could shake a stick at and a phone with a £30 reduction in sale price!!

anyway. . . . . .. . . . . .

I was surprised to learn this. I'd say the N96 was a dead cert for O2. A lot of peeps won't like this. Eggs in Basket?

The futures pink is that T Mobile then lol. Anyway although i am with O2 and think they are a decent network i do think lately in some respects they are not thinking about the customer. Perhaps they are getting too big for their bubble.

Yes Vodafone are stocking it i already seen it in their brochure. Its not about just this phone though. O2 should not keep refusing to take on other big brand phones just cos of the iphone. People will get annoyed cos not everyone wants or can afford an iphone or the expensive contract. They should keep up their good range not downgrade it with Apple thinking they can take over the whole mobile market with on phone. Tut.

Thats true, I wouldnt have any needs to own a iPhone when Nokia offer better choice or hereby all other manufacturers do. Is the N95-2 to stop production when 96 is available? As I cant see sales being v.good when its brothers about lol

this thread makes me laugh. everyone is going on about the Nokia N96 as if its the most demanded phone out der in the market. At the end of the day its just going to be another troubled software glitched phone. How many Apple Iphones have been returned because they are faulty compared to the Nokia range? I can tell you this right now, hardly any. The majority of the handsets are other manufactures. Why should O2 go get a software plagued phone this such as the N96, and don't tell me, it will be a fault free phone, as history shows nearly every nokia phone has had its major issues.

i think this threat should be moved into the Nokia users thread. All these die hard nokia fans complaining about a phone not coming out on a network, on a s.e forum.
