P1i QWERTY keyboard vs. P910i's |

The time has come to move on from my P910i after 4 years' constant use. (It wasn't so happy after I dropped it 10 feet onto a concrete floor.....)
The P1i seems a natural successor for me. But how good is its QWERTY keyboard arrangement compared with the P910's? I used to be able to knock out emails and long texts pretty sharpish with the P910's keyboard, so it was an essential feature for me. Will I be able to do likewise with the P1's? I'd appreciate the views of anyone here who's had experience of both.
(And before anyone says it, yes I know the P1's a 3G phone; I can get a replacement SIM from my network.) |

Each to their own but I never understand why people opt to type on what is quite a small key board when you can write your email directly on to the screen. They keyboard just takes up space. Writing is much faster and much more intuitive as most people having been doing it since age 5.
To answer your question more directly having tried to use the key board a few times i got fed up and went back to writing.....the ability to do this was a big reason I bought this phone. Had the P800 and never bother with that key board either.
Not having a go at any one who does use the key board....like I said i just don't see the point.
If you were thinking of getting the P1 as you will know something newer is expected soon(ish) |

The keyboard on the p1i is infinitely better than that on the p910! It's brilliant - i think its the best feature of the phone. |

If you can wait then do so. I have both the P910i and the P1 as you can see from my signature. mobman is correct, the P910i's keyboard sucks when you compare it with that of the P1. The only small matter with the P1 is getting used to the keyboard, but once you do it is a joy to use.
It's not what you do or even how you do it but in what state of mind you do it: Dups! 2009 |

I'm a trained touch typist, so the contrary is true for me -- my word-per-minute rate on the P910's keyboard was at least three times faster than handwriting on screen. To be honest, the only time I use a pen these days is to provide a signature! |

I agree with 701... P1's so called quasi qwerty keyboard (qwerty torture) is AWESOME once you get used to it.

Thanks for all the replies, people. A P1 it is then Only thing to decide now is where to buy; some used examples on eBay, but I'd rather have new (unlocked, SIM-free) to be honest. Any suggestions (for purchase in the UK)? Many thanks again. |

Ebay is not that safe... Try oficial sony ericsson site or some store in your place.

I've always found play.com to be a good reliable vendor. Not sure how good they are for phones, but i know for a fact that they have sim free phones on offer there a lot of the time, and i'm sure you'll be able to pick up the P1 should be around 250 pound. |

I can't speak for the M600, but yes, P1i is one of the best devices they've ever launched (if P990 only had +64 MB RAM), but it seems as if it has been silently abandoned.
Or does anyone here seriously hope for another fw release after a period of 7 months ?
Well, I don't.
