Hey Guys

As you all know there are usual spam threads like apple iphone 3g , nokia e71 etc for so and so $$ , contact us by email and a few phone numbers.
This is a very common spam and there on most forums.

My Suggestion:-
Create a rule where in the poster is not allowed to enter his email until he gets 5 posts.
There is no necessity for posting email id on this forum as there is PM.

Any Suggestions?

The golden rule on Esato for helping in the fight against spam on Esat is not to reply in the thread. This makes the mods life harder whne removing the thread.

We at M-R.com introduced a system whereby new members are not allowed to post links until they reach 15 posts, this has reduced spam by 95%+

well 99.9% of the members are genuine so you cannot restrict them from posting links , on a similar idea not letting them post email id is fine.
Or they can block some keywords which these spam use.
lets get the mods into the discussion

I'm sure they can survive 15 posts without a link? It's a very good idea. Blocking keywords would be harder, cause they can use so many.

Spam does not clog the forums on Esato so I don't see a problem here?

Spammers can only make 3 posts and there are plenty of members who PM me with a link (thanks for that!) and usually spam lasts no more than a couple of hours and for 80% of the weekday, doesn't last more than a few minutes. Weekends it might be around for half an hour

in general this is alot better than I see on other forums I visit

we could take all sorts of actions to prevent spam but they will always find a way, so I think what we have now, given its limited life and minimal impact, is sufficient

agree. We have far more of a problem with Nokia versus SE flame wars, not that I can talk I seem to get drawn in too
