The UK is about to be showered with more miserable weather as the first autumn storms roll in from the Atlantic.

Around 50mm of rain and 50mph winds will hit south west England and Wales tomorrow.

And forecasters are predicting some areas will suffer localised flooding as most of the UK is drenched.

Conditions will get even worse before the bad weather eventually peters out over the weekend.

Sky News weather presenter Lucy Verasamy said: "Substantial and often heavy rain will be across southern Britain by tomorrow morning.

"There will be terrible conditions through the morning rush-hour with surface water, spray and poor visibility.

"Added to this winds will pick up, with gale force gusts for the coasts - possibly 50-60mph in the most exposed spots.

"It will be a dreadful end to the week and feeling cool. These windy wet conditions will migrate northwards overnight.

"On Saturday it's the turn of southern Scotland, northern England and Wales to bear the brunt of this slow moving system - there'll be gusty winds and further rain.

"There'll be up to 2 inches of rain falling on saturated ground leading to a risk of local flooding. Southern areas will be brighter and breezy with showers.

"Northern Scotland and most of Ireland will get away with a calmer, drier day.

"Everything will improve on Sunday, with rain easing and the winds slackening."

The latest batch of awful weather follows one of the darkest, wettest Augusts on record.
