Printer now bought, please lock |

My daughter has just started secondary school, and I thought its about time I bought a printer for her to use with her school work.
Do I get an all in one printer, or just a printer?
Do I get a printer with 2 ink catridges or individual?
If anyone has any recommendations on printers they use, and if they are any good, please feel free to post.
Paul

It depends on your need.
Would you need scan, copy, fax etc or just printing.

I would only need the scan and print really if any, but my dad has an all in one if I ever needed to copy anything.

Printer prices have dropped like the proverbial but the cartridges are how they maintain their profits. Personally, I like the Canon Pixma range (have a Pixma MP600) and it's stunning. Individual ink cartridges are a must - you only have to see the quantity left difference between the various colours of ink to see it makes sense. I can get a guaranteed refill with printhead reset from Cartridge World for £5 when they are £9.99 in Argos. And quality is good.
Stay away from the cheap Lexmarks - i.e. get a printer for £19.99 but the three colour cartridge costs £24.99!!
All. or most, printers are sold with "starter cartidges" which basically means they have about 1/3 of the ink in there so expect to buy some pretty quick.
And the final suggestion is - especially for teenagers - is to run off a copy of something at least weekly to stop the printhead drying out. Had to throw a printer away because of this. Fixed printheads.

That's another ripoff. Most, if not all, printers have no USB lead in with them - they then want to charge you the earth for the same. Printer £19 - lead £9.99
Have a look at this Pixma range i.e. MP (Multi function) 510, 600 - they always have good reviews. Hunt around on the net - prices vary greatly! |

Just been looking at the 610 in that range, which can be had for just over £100 with a lead, and get great reviews.

The 610 is the more updated one of mine. I have had absolutely no problems with mine.
Everyone will tell you their favourite - there are so many around! The word is leave the Lexmark alone!

Doug, did you get a lead with yours, and was there any ink?

No lead but enough ink for quite a few prints. Hold 5 cartridges - three different colours, one black and one high capacity black. Lasted me a while, if i remember.

# Power cord UK type
# Print Head ZF759
# Ink Tank PGI-5BK
# Ink Tank CLI-8BK

# Ink Tank CLI-8M
# Ink Tank CLI-8Y
# OP Panel Cover (EUR)
# Tray Assy
# Emblem (PIXMA)
# FINE Label
# Eye Catch Label (EU)
# LCD Label
# New Energy Star Label
# CD-Rom (MCD Win 1.0)
# CD-Rom (MCD Mac 1.0)
# Easy Setup Instructions

You must be able to pick up a Samsung CLP-300 for about that these days?
a colour laser jet for £100. I'd jump at the chance, I bought my CLP-300 off Doug last year and I love it greatly, laser p!sses all over ink for most things except photos (I've a sub dye jobby for that), yes the CLP only prints but I've needed to scan anything in.... You get a good 5000 prints out of a laser cart too... a lot more than ink... although price does reflect this...

Can buy the CLP 315 in Pc world for £99 at the moment, but I am wondering if just going for a printer is a wise move for my daughter.
