I got problem with my p1i,
it starts when i try to power off the phone by removing the battery
since the power button is useless.
Now the phone won't finish the entire booting process.
It will restart from beginning when the booting loading bar reach a half of it,
and again and again.
I would like to try hard reset or master reset,
but i do not know which button i should press.
Help me out please.
And without any purpose,
please describe your help clearly.
Thanks and appreciate for your help

I am not aware of any method to reset the phone if it does not finish booting, as far as I know these are functions provided from within the Symbian system.

However, if you are not afraid of losing data on the phone try a reflash. From what you describe that may sort the problem as it sounds like the phone itself is still working to some extent. To get this software visit http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/softwaredownloads/detailed/key.SoftwareDownloadItem.UpdateService/p1i?&lc=en and follow the instructions it gives. If there is no update available there should be an option that lets you reflash with the current firmware revision.

Hope this helps.

Now i'm not afraid to lose any data since my phone is useless now.
I haven't try your link yet, sorry..
Do you know how to master reset while it's off?
Re flash? Does it need computer synchronize first? Because i haven't connect my p1i to my pc.
Thanks for your quick reply.

I'm not sure if it is actually possible to master reset while the phone is off (maybe someone else knows differently). All you should need is a computer (running windows) and the USB cable supplied with the phone. You will not lose data on the memory card (if you have one), just the phone's internal memory.

I believe you already have your answer - download/install SEUS, you may also need to install the pcsuite to get the correct drivers for your phone onto your computer.

After this run SEUS, and connect the phone via the USB cable as per the on screen instructions, if it detects your phone but says you already have the latest firmware - press 'continue anyway'.

BTW, should this occur again, you can perform an emergency shutdown on your phone by pressing and holding the power button for aroun 20sec, this is a little gentler than pulling the battery.

Thanks all,
Let's say i choose to re flash my phone, i do have driver cd for my p1i and later i will download SEUS file. But is it possible my pc will recognize my p1i since it can not turn on?
And it will erase all my data right?
And be honest, i'm still wondering how to do master reset while it's off? Can you tell me how?
About pressing soft reset 20sec, i have to pull the battery out since the soft reset is useless that time.
Appreciate for your help.

A firmware (re)flash is a 100% solution for your problem.

And no, you don't have to install the drivers manually, as they are included in the SEUS application and will be installed on initial connection with your handset.

Just download, install and run it.

Remove and reinsert your battery, push and hold the 'c' button on your keyboard until the application tells you to release it and follow the instructions.

Yes, all your data will be erased during the update process.

Copy that! Thanks.
Okay, do you think i have a choice instead of re flash my phone? Other option perhaps.
Sorry for asking again, is it able for my pc to recognize my p1i since it's not in on condition.
So, you try to say there is no way to reset the phone while it's off "for p1i".
Coz i believe there is way for other brand and type, like my friend's nokia.
Again thanks and appreciate for your help.

Next time your phone doesn't respond when you try to switch it off, don't take off the battery, this is probably why your phone is in a mess. You should press the on/off button for 10 seconds instead of the usual. It WILL switch off as this is the reboot mechanism for exactly the situation you experienced. I'd say a reflash would revive your phone, just make sure you're well versed with the procedure before proceeding

Firmware update seems to be the only option as long as your phone doesn't start at all.. Anyway SEUS should be able to recognize the phone although it is not booting. You need turned off phone when updating you know.

Yes, I agree, you need to re-update your firmware to solve the problem.

Indeed. If it is a software problem though... Firmware update can't resolve hardware related issues though.

You dont actualy boot your phone when using SEUS, what hapens when you plug it in (holding the 'c' key) is that it will start srtaight into flash mode - this doesn't require it to load the full OS. We think that it will therefore skip the part of the boot process that's causing it to fail. I think that this actually has nothing to do with the symbian OS, but rather activates something akin to the BIOS on your pc - the bit that comes up with your computer's configuration before it loads windows.

But trust the consensus here, it really is the only chance to revivve your phone - good luck
