First, is there a way to get the sound transmitted to the handfree instead of the attached headset used as the antenna?
2.) Assuming the above can be doen, and assuming you truly can't get good reception without attaching the headset, has anyone tried cutting the headset wire off somewhere before the wires separate, so you at least just have one wire coming off the phone? |

depending on what phone you have its possible to apply a patch that takes away the limitation of attaching the headset to get the radio started
however, in no case I have heard do you get anything better than very poor reception

Radio can be started without headset if you have the "radio patch" applied on phone. But not all phones are patchable and it isn't worth. It will play NO radio stations without antenna.
