I think thats a very good deal in my opinion. You get unlimited internet for a year use any cloud or Bt open zone wifi and O2 3G internet. You can pick a pay and go tariff to go along with it.
Plus after a year £10 for unlimited date. Sounds like a great deal.

your paying way more if you take out a contract, £99 for the iphone on a £30 a month tariff over 18 month = £639.00

Yes, but if over the same amount of time (18 months) you had an iPhone pay as you go, and topped up the £10 a month for internet AND another £10 a month for actually making calls and texts, you're looking at £709 for 18 months.
So, if you're actually going to use it, even the cheapest contract is still cheaper.
This is for those who have bad credit rating, don't like contracts (moaning old minnies ), have no will power over their spending, or are generally insistant that they want pay as you go, even if it costs them twice as much...
Oh, and the reason all shop staff have been saying it's Christmas is because that's what we were told, we know/knew no more than the rest of you, I kid you not.

what's O2's policy on sim unlocking on pre pay phones?

O2 are unable to unlock a prepay phone unless you have been using a prepay o2 sim card in the phone for atleast 12 month's.
Plus they won't even unlock it for even a charge during them 12 month's.

We've got a multi-year (read, 5 year minimum) deal on the iPhone, they're in no hurry to let customers go

how long before all the networks use that on it's punters though
ive noticed Vodafone has some Nokia exclusive I think we can see this saga coming along with these networks,
they get privaleges to keep the phone and so no other rival can get them,
that way the handset attracts the consumers once that happens it's a bit like that Building society add on tv lmao!

Smaller exclusives like that, or some that Carphone do, are either for the lifetime of the product, or for a limited period, say 3 months.
That's down to the individual company (Carphone, Vodafone, etc) to negotiate with the manufacturer and decide on a price and length of exclusivity.
The iPhone is different, in order to keep things exclusive, and in keeping with Apple's image, Apple themselves chose a network outright rather than the other way around.
So it's not a case of all networks using 'that story', because it's not the same scenario really.
The iPhone will remain in O2 until further notice at the end of the day, but it's a minimum 5 year contract, with the possibility of being renewed.

it's a good proganda tho to get more consumers,
having the exclusive rights to somethings may mean more buisness but I don't think the iPhone has the best features in a phone personally.
let 02 keep it for a further 100 years cos ive no intentions of getting one,nor moving back to the blue side
(saying that I could end up working for the buggers)
next week if I put my singing voice into schwing not lol Hells bells
