What with the success of the other 2 threads I though I'd make a corner for us agnostics, for who believe there is no God, there is no supreme being, who believe the world just exists and is happy with that!

I mean no harm to Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, Jedis, Simpsons, etc etc......

It still baffles me that the earth is like 300 million years old and we are merely a little blip in it! oooooh

Each to his own Reg, but you and i will spend eternity regretting our choice if we find that we bet on the wrong horse when our time's up

I'm willing to take the risk MWEB! I can't argue with science and if something has been carbon dated to 250 million years ago that sort of tells me that we have evolved......

Luckily I've not put my life on the bet, so I'm fairly safe no matter what!

Ah, but which horse to bet on MWEB?

I'm quite happily atheist myself, I can't see there being any proof/logic behind there being some omnipotent being up there somewhre.

Have you read 'The God Delusion' by Stephen Dawkins? Raises a few interesting points - like where does God come from? Is he/she/it part of a race? Did someone create God - God's God? and who created him? Or did he just 'puff' into existence one day, then he decided to create days, nights, the universe, and so on! It just doesn't add up.

It's the most important and complex question we can ask ourselves Sammy .
i am a non believer these days, but i have met many Holy men of various religions who had a certain power and presence difficult to explain.
I'll address the Science issue shortly, i agree with Reg, it does preclude the more questioning amongst us from holding certain beliefs.

I'm in the middle here..I don't pray and don't believe in the names and idols people have created over the years and categorized them into various religions...I don't believe in this theory...

But yes whenever I'm in trouble and i need some help...the first person I ask for help from is 'god'...and the first person I blame also is 'god'....and if something good happens...it's god again the first person I thank...

For me god can be superman or even some unknown natural power...but it ain't no Christ or Muhammad...to me they were simply great human beings..

Again I mean no offense with this...I'm simply stating what I believe in.

here, have a puff

i'm very happy we have started all corners as its gives everyone a place to talk and discuss their beliefs or non beliefs...

I think one of the best things i have heard from a visiting bishop i had the pleasure of sitting with was the answer to the question in regards to items and fossils being carbon dated to way before the world began.... Being a creationist the bishop turned round and advised that god had put these items on the earth for people to find and question other peoples beliefs... this in turn leads everyone to think about their beliefs and what they believe to be real...

At the end of the day no matter how much u believe or dont believe any holy book is a collection of stories that cant be substantiated or proven right/wrong. It is what YOU make of the books and what YOU believe that makes your beliefs what they are.....

Basically we all believe in something that someone else doesnt... the beauty of it is that no matter what you believe there is always someone out there with the same beliefs wanting to talk about them!

Just so we don't all getting confused...........

Are agnostics atheists?

No. An atheist, like a Christian, holds that we can know whether or not there is a God. The Christian holds that we can know there is a God; the atheist, that we can know there is not. The Agnostic suspends judgment, saying that there are not sufficient grounds either for affirmation or for denial. At the same time, an Agnostic may hold that the existence of God, though not impossible, is very improbable; he may even hold it so improbable that it is not worth considering in practice. In that case, he is not far removed from atheism. His attitude may be that which a careful philosopher would have towards the gods of ancient Greece. If I were asked to prove that Zeus and Poseidon and Hera and the rest of the Olympians do not exist, I should be at a loss to find conclusive arguments. An Agnostic may think the Christian God as improbable as the Olympians; in that case, he is, for practical purposes, at one with the atheists.

Someone must have created the universe i dont believe in the bang theory. And when we are no longer of this planet there cant be just nothing.........can there. When we die there cant be just blackness and nothing that nothing has gotta be something. I believe in life after death that the soul goes on. Be an awful waste of space if nothing was out there and no one created it.
