Try
http://www.fring.com
and
http://www.lonelycatgames.com/?app=slick
Both are free native UIQ3 apps (not java), and support gtalk

Nice apps links I must admit. I'm using IM+ with wifi and bluetooth PAN though. Not using GPRS.

You might also want to try Talkonaut -
http://www.talkonaut.com/home.shtml
It also supports voice chat (VOIP) over Gtalk. One of the best gtalk clients IMO
Also supports MSN etc. |

Used IM+ but Yahoo doesn't work anymore on it,so I switched to Slick which is a bit better. I'll give it a review sometime soon cuz it's worth it.

I have used all these IM clients on my P1i with GPRS/3G and WiFi for GTalk, Yahoo and MSN.
Slick - its good for chatting and its free, doesn't support voice chat and Drains battery quickly
Fring - This is the best one from all these, Free and support Voice chatting (through 3G or WiFi connection only), on GPRS mode it does support chatting. The bad point about fring is, it hangs occasionally.
IM+ - looks cool, and support more network, but it isn't free.
ebuddy (java) - Looks nice and free, don't have voice chat support and its jave app.
IMO fring is the best one, support vast number of networks (Gtalk, Yahoo, MSN, Jabber, Skype, etc) and its free. can make voice chat on GTalk and MSN.
