I have been using my t39 as a GPRS modem via my laptop's IR port for a couple of months and a few installations of windows. I thought I had installed sp3 before, but perhaps not -- this time I put sp3 on and windows promptly stopped recognizing my phone (e.g. no little IR icon shows up in my sys tray, no "boing!" IR discovery noise).

I've tried switching IRQs, DMAs and base memory addresses. Device Manager tells me everything is fine, both with the fastIR controller and the virtual comm port with which it interacts. I've searched the windows update site for newer drivers with no luck.

Can anyone help me out? I have found a lot of posts on this site explaining how to resolve IR / virtual comm port problems in win2k by installing sp3; haven't seen anything about problems caused by sp3, but this seems to be one.

I was hoping to avoid that. Regardless, I just tried it and it didn't help.

I am pretty sure that sp3 is the culprit, though, unless installing getright could somehow screw things up... pretty sure that's the only other software I've installed in the last week.
