Hi all,
I have been searching on the web but I could not find any light. I am confused with the terms A200 and JP-8. Does that mean that the A200 is based on JP-8 platform ?
Also is it an OS coded in Java?

No it is not an OS coded in Java and such a statement is simply silly. The OS is A200 (in most recent mid- to high-end phones) and it supports the JP-8 platform.

Sony Ericsson's non-smartphones are based mainly on Java... They have other codes too but mainly they are java imo...

SE non-smartphones are based on an OS called OSE, which is provided by a Swedish company called Enea (formelly owned by Ericsson). Java runns on top of OSE as an ordinary application (as it does in other OS:es as well) giving the phones some additional goodies. |

A200 is the Graphical User Interface that the phones use characterised by Menu styles and media/walkman players.
JP-8 is the platform for running Applications that sits on top of the A200 GUI like Opera Mini, World Clock and various games.

That's good info and makes point. After all maybe that's why we never were able to port the Walkman 2 into K800 or other, older platform phones.

It's just the GUI? I thought it was a whole version of the OS!

Nope i think it's the support for the jp8 and apps like the new walkman and etc... It is not the graphic interface only. The whole patform is different there...

It's just the UI, yes. Same goes for UIQ. Besides, it's called A2 |

Well there must be the protection changed too... If it was just the UI, why XS++ or other free flashing programs not supporting this platform?

I always thought A100/A200 was the OS, not just the GUI. It's the SE version of OSE. Regardless, one thing for a fact, JAVA is not part of the OS OR the GUI. JAVA sits on top of the OS and provides a virtual machine for running J2ME applications.
If you took the JAVA VM away, you would still have a fully functional A100 or A200 handset (except no java support)

Well after the info max_wedge gave me about this the things are now clear...
Operating system is OSE or the A100, A200 and etc... The platform may be DB2020 DB2010 and etc... supporting the OSE. And Java is on top of the OS the phone is using, making you available to run java apps on your phone.
