Google web pages available on P800 |

Hi.
Here is an answer I got from Google after my first mail stating that we could not access the web / imode sites of google anymore withth e integrated browser :
"Thank you for taking the time to write to us. We sincerely appreciate it.
Things did in fact change a couple of weeks ago, as you pointed out --
specifically when we modified our webserver to send WML to all browsers
with the user agent SonyEricsson... This was in response to numerous
reports that people going to wap.google.com on their SonyEricsson t68s
were not getting our wml interface.
But we were overzealous in sending WML to all SonyEricssons. Clearly the
P800s would be better off with our WEB site. We have fixed the bug in our
codebase, and it will go live with our next webserver release --
approximately a week from today. I apologize for the inconvenience this
delay will cause you. Ideally we would push this bugfix immediately, but
an emergency push is something we try to reserve for emergencies.
I hope that you will consider switching back to us once this problem is
fixed.
A couple other things:
- wap.google.com actually doesn't serve WML content unless you're on a wap
phone. Try going to wap.google.com in a web browser; it looks just like
www.google.com. The t68 users who wrote in were actually saying, "We go
to wap.google.com and get a 'Error: malformed content' message."
- I believe that Google should be working as expected (WEB output) on the
Nokia 7650. Unfortunately, I don't have a device to test on, but would
you let me know if there is a problem? I would appreciate it.
- Are there any other SonyEricsson devices to which we are serving WML
that we should be serving our regular HTML output?
- I agree that we should have a URL such as www.google.com/web where you
can override our automatic detection. It is on our list of "todos", and
it's just a matter of implementing it. (It's more difficult than it
sounds!)
Thanks again for taking the time to let us know what happened. Please let
us know if there's anything else we can do to improve your experience
using Google on the Ericsson line-up.
Sincerely,
Lauren Baptist
Software Engineer
Google, Inc."

Well Google should be given credit for that kind of response to an email concern.
Informative & clearly actioning the problem. Very impressive. |

Psikey :
I totally agree with you, I was not sure at all to get an answer back, and have been impressed by their concern.
Mail was sent on the 30/12, answer given the 1st of january, problem solved for the 8th. Example to be followed by other sites !!
Thanks to Google. |

And that's done. Google has modified it's process. P800 can again get the normal "web" page instead of the wap one... with the integrated browser.
Thanx Google. |
