W980 Vodafone branded: is it really bad? |

I had an Italian W980 TIM branded and the main menu is really disgusting: dull icons and NO FLASH THEMES at all. I flashed it with a no-brand firmware but there are no firmwares with ITALIAN language, Vodafone branded apart. So my question is: would it be worth flashing with a french Vodafone firmware (the only one with Italian T9) or will it spoil my phone with the same shity menu I had before? Has the vodafone branded w980 flash themes?
thanks and sorry for bad English

Hi! Your English is fine mate!
Vodafone branded firmware will likely give you Vodafone icons, which aren't bad, but aren't nearly as good as the original Sony Ericsson ones, but it will give you flash themes, so you can cover up the Vodafone ones anyway.

are you 100% sure it has flash themes, even if it's branded? |

My Vodafone branded W910i has flash themes. Carkitter's V640i has flash themes. I've seen Vodafone branded W880is with flash themes. So I see no reason why they'd leave them off the W980 which is a much more expensive model.

sadly, here in Italy both Vodafone and TIM branded Sony Ericsson have cut off flash themes. Where are you from (I'll try to flash with a voda firmware from your country)?

only problem is the vodafone txting interface is really shit. if you add animations etc. it will turn to an mms and if you send it to more than 10 contacts it converts to mms |

Hello!
I live in Barcelona, Catalonia
Movistar,Orange and Vodafone have destroyed our branded w910 here...no flash themes at all.
My friends have to flash them everytime, even using the operator because they erase flash themes and aldo games and applications..And Movistar even "cut"s the bluetooth facility in some NOkia models so you cannoy send/get some images,If you want games, applic, or images , ypu must pay for them and get them through Wap on the same mobile.
Disgusting isn't it?
And 90% of branded mobiles here are returned/exchanged because they do not work properly after some days. |

Best would be to debrand the phone to get back all the functionality.

Ok, it seems like the European Vodafone firmwares are a lot worse. Maybe its not worth it, and like yea g says, the texting interface is sh*t on a Vodafone one. Your best bet is probably to just debrand.

VodafoneNZ firmware for the W980 has yet to be finalised and the phone won't be released here til near Xmas. Our firmware will be branded but unlocked; VodafoneNZ only lock the iPhone 3G, nothing else.
