I bought an AC to USB port adaptor for my travelling use with P1i. The adaptor seems not working with P1i as a battery charger but works with a wireless router very well. Is there any particular requirement for charging P1i with such readily available adaptor on the market?

I don't do it everytime I plug in my desktop pc and the pc charges it everytime when I plug into USB port. Thus, I did not do anything and just plug it into the USB port of the adaptor with the same SE cable.

I have not heard about power adapter with USB port. Could you please provide some details on the adapter? What is the advertised purpose of this USB port? Thanks.

It is quite common on the market. For example, the AC adapter (there is a power plug on one side and a USB port on the other side. If you have not seen it, go to Apple website and search accessaries.) is for iPod charging purpose or any USB powered devices (i.e., wireless router, external hard disk, etc.

Try enabling or disabling the USB charging option in your P1.

Then there is something wrong with the charger (if your p1 is ok).

If I were in your place, I would go for new charger. Return this one and get better that works with the phone. Test it before buying if you have that opportunity.

Last year I got a charger, car lighter plug on one end and USB on the other end. It didn't work with my P990. Later on I got it to work with another brand. It seems not all USB converters are the same, try a different brand.
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD
