What in the hell is the new Orange adverts all about. I just dont get it. They have wasted 30 million on an advertising slogan of I AM which is complete nonsense. What has any part of the advert got to do with mobile phones. The advert does nothing to make me sit up and say WOW I GOTTA GO OUT AND BUY AN ORANGE MOBILE PHONE. Its just complete pap and a waste of money. They should have spent 30 million on improving their service. Someone at Orange needs shooting. |

When a brand's customer base is as universal as a mobile phone operators like Orange, the marketing strategy has to try to be lifestyle based. It has to try and appeal to anyone and everyone.
You can understand the initial brief the agency was tasked with.
What is difficult to understand is ho they got is so wrong in its execution and yet still managed to get sign-off from Orange's Marketing Director.
Agree completely with the original poster. |

I have to agree that it is a rubbish ad campaign. Doesnt imply anything to do with their business at all.

Its just so stupid and a waste of money it wont help them sell phones. If they want to make it life style based then they should advertise their tariffs and how they can benefit your life style. So so poor. If someone had watched that and never heard of Orange before they would never know it was to do with mobile phones. |

Its not necesarily a good marketing ploy as I know a few people who have said that is an annoying ad but cant remember who it was advertising.

It's probably not meant to sell mobile phones, but subconcoiously make you more aware of their brand. Three did it a while back with their very random TV ads. It's simply to make you think "what the hell is this?", therefore you notice it more, therefore you'll remember it, and then you see Orange at the end and it'll stick.
Must be working, it's got you all talking about it

I always think the ad is something for the NHS about STD's, the first one was the worst of the lot. |

But therefore, it caught your attention.
People don't make this much fuss over most other adverts, so clearly it's stuck with you, even if you do think it's a bit crap. Doesn't matter what the content of it is, it's phsycological, thats the whole idea.
